Has anyone noticed that Perb is receiving some very unwanted attention these days. An article in the National Post about asian microbothels and all the seedy stuff of forced sp's.

Idle thought ...

I wonder about copyright and how it applies in this scenario. I would imagine that all posts are the "property" of TERB and TERB's owner(s). In this case, I suppose Fred owns all the posts here. I guess we also all have some rights to our own posts too.

So can a reporter quote our posts here without first getting written permission from TERB, Fred and the individual poster?

In the grand scheme of things it may not matter, but I wonder what the tenical legalities are? Somehow I don't think the Vancouver Sun reporter sought out that permission, but I could be mistaken.

Published material can be quoted in context, you don't need anyone's permission to do that.

xaxir: the Vancouver Sun did speak to me, hence although they did not get permission from me, they gave me advance warning of the article and a summary of my comments that they were going to include in the article. Interesting thing is they decided to exclude my comments from their published article. Perhaps they thought my comments would detract from their message.

Actually, as for the posts "belonging" to anyone, as the internet is public doman, and here we don't have to pay or be a member to view the posts, I'd have to say they are public.....

Same goes for when you're walking down the street. It is legal to photograph you and use your image as long as your image isn't used in an untrue manner (like an ad that says you're a terrorist etc if you're not).
