I was wondering if any members have any experience with old fashioned penpals, you know, the snail mail variety?

And on more of a TERB related question have any of those penpal letters gone on to erotic correspondence or even a meetup in person?

I really like sending letters, and I have a couple of friends who write back sometimes, but they don't have the same brain worms I do and I send much more than I ever get back.

Christmas cards are unironically my favorite part of the holiday season. I love touching base with friends I don't often hear from, and sending a little personalized message, so much so that I started doing it on other occasions throughout the year!

Many moons(decades) ago when I was young and romantic I had a girlfriend in a city a few hundred kms away. We kept in touch with letters. It was fun in the anticipation of waiting for letters to arrive. It was equally fun to write back. The nostalgic time before emails existed.

I did in Grade 5 (mid 2000s) because it was arranged by our teacher and the letters were even graded before being sent. Because I was in the tail end of the generation that still got to experience it, I don’t know enough about it. I presume a majority of pen pal cases had to be arranged by schools (or some community centre/library program) due to the stranger danger of doing it naturally and just how improbable it would otherwise be to get another kid’s contact information by oneself.

I certainly didn’t cherish my particular experience due to it being graded. It gave this feeling of my sentences being monitored which restricted the freedom to communicate solely with the pen pal.
