Oh cool! Another cop story where people can jump to conclusions without knowing the full story :)

Next time the cops get a call about a person running around with a knife, they should bring tea and biscuits and have chat with them first.
You guys do realize the police have to act fast to defuse a situation. According to the article it was dark and they couldn't see her age. If the lady harmed someone, you'd all be yelling that the stupid worthless pigs didn't do their job.

Didn't a guy with a knife cut off a woman's nose recently in Toronto?

Once more, BH paints all the Peel Regional officers as pigs, because of one officer possibly suffering a brain cramp. Interestingly though that BH decided not to mention the women was armed with a meat cleaver and chasing her husband with it, no mention how close she was when shot. The husband doesn't seem too upset and complaining about what occurred.

What's there to know? The cop tasered an 80 year old woman. Maybe she was carrying a knife. No, she would have been shot first, then tasered.
Clearly you didn't read the article, she was armed with a cleaver and chasing her husband.

I stand corrected. She had a knife. The CP24.com article I read this morning didn't mention the knife, it just stated that "officers spoke with the woman until 'at some point' in the incident an officer fired his taser".
Fair enough, says something about CP24 leaving that 'small' detail out, choosing to report the price of a Taser instead.

CP24would have got to the knife at some point, after some 'excellent investigative' journalism. :) But only after that had sold enough papers with the rather more inviting salacious cop vs old lady shenanigans.

The copper said the woman’s husband was allegedly “spotted being chased down the street” by a woman carrying a “meat cleaver.”

^ From the wording of the article I wonder if there actually was a meat cleaver, also says the woman is not being charged (attempted murder no biggy)...

Like as fast as an 80 year old?

If she is not being charged is a factual statement then what does this say about the threat level and the decision to use the taser ? Either she should be charged or the cop should be - you can't have it both ways.

This CBC article I just came across on Yahoo makes no mention of a knife or cleaver either...

Ontario's police watchdog is investigating after officers deployed a Taser on an 80-year-old woman in Mississauga, Ont.

The Special Investigations Unit said the incident under investigation occurred in the Thomas Street and Erin Mills Parkway area in the early hours of Aug. 28.

Their preliminary information indicates that Peel Regional Police had received calls about a woman walking along the road.

The SIU said that police spoke with the woman and "at some point" a Taser was deployed and the woman fell to the ground.

The woman was taken to Credit Valley Hospital where she was treated for injuries that included a broken hip.

The SIU has identified one subject officer and two witness officers.

The SIU investigates all incidents involving police in which death or serious injury occur, or when allegations of sexual assault are raised.

Ontario recently announced that it would allow local police forces to decide which officers can carry and use Tasers, after reviewing data that suggests their use results in "fewer significant injuries" to police and the public.

Not enough information provided to know what the hell is going on. Was it a meat cleaver or a butter knife? Was the woman chasing her husband or wandering aimlessly in the streets?

But at first blush, the cops have some 'splainin' to do.
