There have been protests almost as continuous across the entire country all this time. The ones where the cops aren't inciting further violence get no coverage.

This was a planned systematic attack on police with sharpened PVC piping used to try and stab police, protesters carrying backpacks full of frozen water bottles and firework mortars.
The police did not incite any thing, they were rushed by a mob who clearly initiated the attack

The amount of destruction is going up as resistance to his heavy hand.
The Portland Moms aren't the only peaceful group there, but they do show that people sympathize with the cause more than the stormtroopers.

I know it doesn't fit your mindset but the violence has tended to come when police and Trump's secret army has pushed the iron fist tactics. A couple minor statements of appeasement and they could have let this movement die out but instead Trump trying to act macho with a militaristic response has completely backfired (as everyone in the military knew it would).
