I am traveling in may i went to renew my passport the earliest they are telling me is may 17 for renewal. I was advised to go to the passport office which has only a few locations scarborough mississauga midtown and a few other places. Covid is over why do we still have to wait so long to get our passport renewed especially for somebody who lives so far away. This is very ann

Here
I waited almost 3 months for mine. The only thing to do is book your trip, take the details to the passport office and get and expedited passport I think you can still book an appointment

Gators, if the Public Sector Unions go on strike you probably won't be able to get a passport in time. I hope your flight and hotel are refundable.

PSAC strike vote: Here's how a strike could impact federal services | CTV News

Employment and Social Development Canada warns passport services may be partially or fully disrupted in the event of a strike by PSAC members.

The department says information will be made available as the government learns more about a possible labour disruption.

There is two expedited options for a fee. 2-9 business day and even next day if I remember right. Not always offered at each location, best to call ahead. A decade ago I had damaged my passport on a business trip, got hassled on my return flight to Canada. Had another trip coming up quick and didn't want to risk further issue at the airport. I think I spent $150 to get it in a few days back then.

Dropped mine off at North York passport office a few months ago. 2 hours in line. Arrived at my house exactly one week later.
Friend sent it in by mail, took less than 4 weeks. It arrived yesterday.
Best bet is to drop in to passport office, not service Canada office. The pick up option costs $20 more and would have taken 5 days longer than letting them mail it out.
Just do it before they go on strike.

Public sector unions going on strike. They haven’t grasped the new reality of AI. Even in it’s most undeveloped stage AI can replace 3/4 of the public sector.
Just think about the changes in banking once the instant teller arrived.
The Canadian postal workers were constantly threatening a strike. Welcome email ! If the government actually went to direct deposit for all the handouts it processes, the posties would go the way of the dodo bird.

The government never really recovered from covid. Sad really. They are pretty much in a state of shut down because of it. Must be a terrible situation for them.

What? are they still on strike?
If not in strike and Gov't doesn't want to recover to save on expenses. They need the money for war not food/shelter/education.

More updates please on timing and ways to get your passport. I think they changed the rules in September.
I think you can go to the Service Canada office to renew your passport.
I kept hearing they will come out with online passport renewal and you
can upload your photo. No further news on that but it might be in 2024 before they make it happen.
