CNN is the one that literally got laughed by the audience when Stephen Colbert says it was a credible news source. So you're just going to pick and choose on which bias you want huh?
Good point. Remember when CNN was fined 3/4 of a billion for lying to the US public?

First and foremost independent media want to generate revenue from social networks by spitting out any non-verified nonsense.

I remember Steve Jobs was trying to cut out deals with mainstream media because he saw the proliferation of blogs and had zero trust in them.

Like a lot of industries, journalism is pretty screwed up.
Revenue from print is gone.
Advertising revenue goes to google, social media and amazon before papers.

So we are stuck with corporate/billionaire owned media, which is most american media and most privately owned canadian media like the national post and star.
The CBC is good but is being changed from within of late, check out the difference in reporting between trudeau and PeePee of late.
Independent journalism is alive and trying to figure out how to survive. The Narwal is doing some of the best canadian journalism, they were the ones that dug up the Greenbelt dirt.

Nobody trusts the same media anymore.
NYT is messed up
Pro Publica is good but limited
CNN nobody takes seriously
Fox is killing the US like Sinclair

Globally there are a few good sources but its a mess.

The fact that nobody can agree on what is fake news and legit is part of why there is so much division, or maybe the division fosters partisan news.

Interesting that they are posting data from 2020, not the most recent data from Gallup's poll, which you can find here: https://news.gallup.com/poll/512861/media-confidence-matches-2016-record-low.aspx

As you can see, the current numbers have dropped further across the board.

Some context from the article.

Democrats’ confidence in the mass media has consistently outpaced Republicans’, but the latest gap of 47 points is the narrowest since 2016. Democrats’ trust in the media has fallen 12 points over the past year, to 58%, and compares with 11% among Republicans and 29% among independents.

The gap in partisans’ media confidence was largest from 2017 through 2022. During that period, Democrats’ trust was above its trend average of 64%, while Republicans’ and independents’ confidence were each below their averages (33% and 44%, respectively).
The top line number is for "positive" at all, but if you look at just "great deal" of trust - those numbers are really low for everyone.

Republicans: 1%
Independents: 5%
Democrats: 15%

The big difference is in the "A fair amount"
43% of Democrats fall there.

Then in the "not very much" number is similar for all three groups.
Then at the "not at all" stage the Republicans just reject everything.

It's a really interesting snapshot of how this has become politicized.
