was working in Barrie today and stopped in at Audiotronic on Bayfield. They had this tv on special...

Panasonic 50" LCD HD WideScreen for $1999 (CDN$)

model # PT-50LC14-K

I looked it up on the net just now and it retails for more than $2k in USDollars on most sites.

Most reviews seem positive. The odd person complained about bulbs burning out, but they offer 3 and 5 year warranty... i remember the 5 year was $249.

seems like a good deal, what do you think?

way out in left field
Is this an LCD projection or an LCD monitor? From the sounds of the "bulbs burning out" issue it most likely is an LCD projection TV.

Unless it is refurbished, or used, it sounds like a great deal to me.......

Sounds good if it's new.
Have been outta the loop since I stopped selling the stuff 2years ago.
But tha'ts not a bad deal, seeing how DCR (no clue what that is) seems to be the new 3-letter acronym for something that they claim is mind blowing and required in every set ("to get the best quality image") :p
Think about it this way, 2 years ago that Panny, was probably worth about $3500 since it was the hottest thing on the market.
Grab it if you NEED it, if you WANT it, different story. lol
If you can, scan for a Toshiba or a Hitachi, they really put out some great stuff.
Sony is nice, but overpriced (paying a lot for the name, as they use a lot of Samsung components...Toshiba uses Hitachi components as well, at times)
Not to rain on your price parade but...http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002Q2EUQ/104-3128619-6765532?v=glance&n=172282

Wanted to add to this, to warn you all.
NEVER BUY "warranties" from any store.
Just buy on your credit card, they will match the warranty of the product purchased on the card.
ie - Panasonic gives 1 year, Visa will give you a second year, identitical to the first, only through them.
Something happens, you pay for repairs, show proof of payment for repairs, along with warranty document from the item and they'll reimburse you.
Warranties = extra profit and it's absolute bullshit.
I always whispered to customers not to buy it and told them about the credit card thing.

I saw the same one at BestBuy today for $2899 sale price.

aren't these refurbies? pretty sure amazon specializes in refurbies and that's why people have so much trouble with amazon electronics.

and Visa doesn't always provide warranties. you have to check your own individual terms of agreement. ie, my cc doesn't. otherwise, that's a great idea, because if you can get 2 years warranty and know the unit is problem free for those two years, chances are it will last it's full lifetime, right?

Shit Buy always is overpriced.
But the majority of people don't know that and assume it's the place for great deals on everything *wrong*...especially computer parts.
Better off going to logiccomputerhouse (in mississauga).
(digressing sorry, just Shit Buy pisses me off how they scam people so bad, same goes for Future Crap)

Yep, just looked more into it now, you're right.

Wow no kidding, you don't get it?
Better check again, almost every card company offers it, it's keeping up with the Jones' in terms of service and card features.
I'm pretty sure you can get it.

Exactly, usually i whispered to the customers, just play the shit out of whatever unit you got in the first 2-3weeks, if it was gonna happen, it would happen then.

I had it on my student Visa as well, then they bumped my limit up last year, but still get warranty with it.

Yeah pretty much. I worked at Best Buy for a few years and I really hated having to sell warranties to customers. As an employee we got the warranties, sorry "Performance Service Plans", for cost plus 5%. I could literally get a $400 warranty for $9. Plus if you ever do a warranty claim they make it as difficult as possible to do it. Got a scratch on the side of the TV? Oh that looks like abuse and we'll void your warranty. Plus employees used to say all sorts of BS just to sell them claiming all sorts of stuff was covered when it wasn't. We tell everyone we weren't on comission but the managers get a huge bonus for selling warranties so they push the employees like crazy to sell them. People get fired for not selling enough warranties.

Some dude at FS kept pressuring me to buy a $25 extended warranty on a $79 DVD player. Funny.
Future Shop is on comission. They make extra comission on the warranty plus I believe they double their comission on the actual product if they sell it with a warranty.

LOL...exactly.
Man after reading that I got this chill.
I remember those days.
Never again. You're so right about the bullshit guys said to sell it.
How about the Monster Cable product push. I always pushed for the Accoustic Research (under my breath), customers loved the honesty. lmao.

I bought this same Panasonic 50 inch LCD projection from Costco in late November.........I got the last of the great deal on this.........was $2799-$500 instant rebate.......they were sold out and I got on awaiting list.......during that time the price came down to $2499.......I ended up getting it for $2000......that included a stand.........I have been very happy so far......I also heard about the extra year of warranty with the credit card purchase....hope this helps.

well, after taking a look at what prices were out there for hitachi, sony and toshiba, i decided i'd drive up to barrie to take another look. once up there, i decided to pick it up tonight!

managed to knock it down to $1869. the sales dude said it was some $40 above cost. I bought a canon digital rebel slr camera too and that's how i was able to get the discount..the canon rebel wasn't a bad deal either... $1049 their list... yeah it sounds like a shill, but i'm excited after my purchases:) . i guess i coulda got the camera in the usa and probably save $500, but i won't be down there till late february. oh well.

as for the panny, pretty easy to set up... plug in and push a button. salesperson told me to let the tv cool down before disconnecting power as the bulbs will last alot longer.

The Canon sounds like you got a good deal on.
I got discounts with Nikon directly through them, Canon never gave us deals.
Sounds like you got yourself a pretty sweet package overall, congrats.

You couldn't be more mistaken fool. Their prices/customer service/return policies/stock CANNOT be beat. If you want a specialty store go to Kromer Radio ro Bay Bloor Radio. However, if you want mass market consumer electronics at the BEST PRICE go to BEST BUY. They are the best retailer out there, BAR NONE. Your information is bias and foolish.
ontario, i think you are the one mistaken. I see better prices offered at alot of different places.

also, as an auctioneer, I handle liquidated electronics and would never by that shit. anyways, did you know that Best Buy damages more electronics than any other electronic retailer. would you really want to buy a $3000 tv from the company that treats it's cardboard waste with better care than it's new merchandise? $300 mp3 player...maybe... but, $3000 tv... nope. never.

and about the best price... did you read this entire thread? the tv i bought was a stupid price at best buy.

but maybe now knowing about the terms of the credit card warrantee, i might by all my electronics from liquidations and auctions from now on! my terms state i'm fully covered for 90 days... if something happens within that time, get it replaced or fixed and then do what you want with it... i'd sell it then!

If you say so...I mean not that I worked there or anything.
Not that I know the cost and how much they mark them up for.
Not at all.
Btw, name calling? Fool? hmmm...who's the fool if one believes that $hit Buy actually has the best customer service AND prices around. lol.
Buddy wake up. As for their stock, there were lots of times I sent customers away because of that very fact, lack of stock.
Btw http://www.bestbuysux.org/ check it out and read some of it.
