So, it's 1:40 in the morning. I'm actually up. I've been working away on my computer on a report and cooking some food at the same time to freeze.

I'm in my house by the way in the west end in Toronto.

I hear knock knock (just twice on my door).

I think, "Did I just hear someone knock at my door??" Can't be. The TV is on in the other room, must be that I think.....

Two more knocks, but more quiet.

It's Fucking 2 in the morning I'm thinking!!! Who the fuck is that?

I go downstairs and sure enough, there's this fucking guy standing at my front door. Never seen him before in my life.

"Excuse me sir, I noticed the front door was open" (The outer door was closed, the main door was open cause I was still up and I had had it open earlier when I was cooking and never closed it.)

Me, "What do you want?"

Him, "My car broke down at Windermere and Jane"

Me, "Windermere and Jane don't meet"

Right away, I'm fucking pissed off.

Me, "Get the fuck out of here now before I call the cops."

He turns and runs down the walkway.

I decide to call the cops anyway.

WTF is with that?

This shit is also happening in Mississauga now. Had a guy approach me the other night with a gas can in his hand looking for money to by gas so he could get to Guelph.

Seems every time I stop in the car to look at a map, or have something to eat, some guy with a sad story is on me wanting money.

There should be a law to fine people who give out money to these guys.

Here's what I do, when your walking by a bumb tap your pockets like your looking for change, then when you get to them say 'fooled ya'. I mostly do it to the younger street kids that are healthy and just too lazy to work. It seems cruel but it's fun, try it, the look on their faces is funny.

TORONTO NEWSPAPER HEADLINE:

DECEMBER 24th. POLICE ARE ASKING FOR PUBLIC ASSISTANCE IN THE ASSAULT ON guy27.

Apparently the victim jingled his jangles to the wrong crowd and was found upside down in a garbage skip near Queen and Bathurst.

Okay well try this..

"Spare change sir"
Guy27.. no thanks I have some ...

Its probably safest to just ignore them .. unless your Denny Crane

Remember the Boston Legal episode when Crane shot a homeless man in the head with a paintball gun after the man threw a rock at his head because Denny ignored his pleas for spare change. ....

I digress...

Violence is bad.

Basic rule: Never provoke violence unless you have the will and the skills to deal with violence if it erupts.

Basic problem: The potential time loss and in most cases possible cost of all the paper work of is a bitch.

Corollary to Basic Problem: If the beggar spends a night or two or three in custody he gets free food. If I do I am significantly inconvenienced. He has nothing to lose, I do.

Suggested response: Ignore them.

Over all suggestion: Avoid violence and behaviours that can trigger violence at all times unless there is a clear risk of injury or death or you are getting paid for it.

Good point Loki, and I think I posted this story somewhere before but here it is again:

I pulled into my local shoppers drug mart and there's ALWAYS beggars out front. So this guy says to me: hey, that's a nice truck (it was like a week old at the time).

I say, thanks, yeah I like it....

He says: spare some change?

I go into the store, get my stuff and come out.

He says again: spare some change?

I say: no, see that truck? It's worth 46 grand...less than a year ago the company I worked for closed and I was without a job. Did I start begging? No, I started working hard and look what it got me.....

I've had the lot creatures come up to me in just about every parking lot these days with one sob story or another.

But this guy knocked on my door at 2 in the morning.

I have no doubt that if I had not been awake, he would have come into the house.

Yes, not good at all when guys come to your door at night looking for money. Hopefully that is not a new trend. Can blame the people who give these guys money for attracting hordes of beggars to the city. Competition is now causing the beggars to become more aggressive.

Hard to believe that begging for money has been allowed to become as wide spread as it has in Toronto. Begging is now spilling into the suburbs. Never saw it here in Mississauga a couple of years ago.

One has to wonder if he was a crook instead of a panhandler. He saw your inner door open and knocked fairly lightly (you thought it was the tv after all). I think it extremely likely he was trying to determine if anyone was awake or not. Had you not answered I agree he probably would have entered looking for a quick theft. Fortunately he wasn't willing to use force on you.

Unfortunately these days it's not a good idea to leave your doors unlocked, even when you're awake.

Reminds me of a comedian that used the philosophy of "get there first" when he comes up to a pan xxxxxxx he looks them straight in the eye and before they can ask he says "give me a dollar". Same shit. The pan xxxxxxx basically then just ignores him. He does not want to give away HIS money and why does he make the decision that I have more them him in the first place?

Best advice is ignore them and they will go away. Its no fun to sit and ask for money only to not be seen.

But if they come to your door make sure that they know you mean business without getting rude. This will stop them from coming back.

Last year I was at the petro gas station at Vic park and ellesmere and this guy asked me if i had any money which i actually didnt i was paying with debit. But he kept coming back to me and asking for money until i pulled out my wallet and showed him that there was no money at all inside.

Then a few days ago I was at National Sports and this women with a note written in English came up too me (didnt even let me get out of my car) and the note was asking for money cause she had two kids and no husband. Even though she looked clean and had nice clothes on. She didnt look like she needed money at all.

but that is crazy coming up to your house at 2 in the morning.

There's an old lady always panhandling at the entrance of Atrium on Bay (north side; by the post office), she's been there for a few years now.

Two weeks ago I see here shopping in Yorkville, in nice clothes

The ones that piss me off the most are the ones that come into restaurants and coffee shops and hit you up for change when you're eating. I do not feel bad telling them to fuck off in that situation.

In every other situation I'm polite. I can't tell which ones are homeless because they're lazy assholes (most) and which ones have a real but potentially not visible problem (some).

I would feel bad yelling at a guy who has a real issue, and since I can't tell which those are, I just polititely say "sorry" and walk on.

I had one guy stick his hand between my mouth and my sandwich once and I stood up and yelled at him to fuck off so loudly I almost blew him over. That shit pisses me off.

Most of the time the ones who are faking have clean shoes and the ones who are telling the truth well obviously its the opposite dirty shoes.

Some of you know may have guessed that I am a shit disturber. So, on the topic of the street people...
Where do they go to the bathroom? Certainly not in dark corners. Surely there is not a thin layer of shit spread all over the streets and subways of down town Toronto by innocent shoes. God I hope none of them are sick, because we might be heading for a nice epidemic.

Gee maybe the mayor should have spent the $40,000,000 he spent on NOT building a bridge to the island airport on creating shelters and cleaning our streets?

What am I missing? I don't see him asking for money anywhere in that exchange. He could have made a mistake on the intrersection the way that reads. Care to elaborate on how you knew he was panhandling?
