I witnessed a fire near Malibu in September about 20 years ago fanned by the Santa Ana winds. Was astounded by the strength of thedownslope winds and I was 5 miles from the fire. I cannot image the intensity of the winds when compressed and superheated by fire! 3 big old Huey choppers were hauling Bambi Buckets of water non-stop but it was like pissing on a forest fire.

I've also spent time in Northern Ontario in the Chapleau and Gogama with a friend who was operating a couple small Jet Rangers for the MNR during the fire season doing 'prescribed burns' burning fire lines in case there was. a fire. Saw several real fires too. Was in Kelowna two eyars ago and saw the West Kelowna fire come over the mountain. THAT was scary and impressive.

This current PP fire is astounding. I feel so bad for all the people whose homes have been incinerated. I wonder if they'll rebuild?
