Darling,

Did you watch the game on ESPN2? They clearly showed Ovechkin taunting the crowd the way I described. Perhaps the TSN telecast didn't show that.
Stacy I love you sweety. What a savy response. Pay no attention to Ranger. His sole purpose on this board is to prove everyone that they are wrong and that he is ALWAYS right. Don't be drawn into his tyrids and mindless banter. All he does is ridecule and insult peoples opinions.

Not that Ranger and I always agree.....but in his defense I have to say I do remember seeing someone hotdoging it ( similar to Satan'a call from Buffalo _ on the third goal. Likewise in fairness to Stacy, I didn't see the end of the game and the empty net goals so I cannot comment on what she may have seen.

Just wondering.....

....what you are basing your prediction on Stacey???....The Canadians so far have shown they are the class of this tourney..no disrepsect to the Russian team...they seem to have a great squad...but everyone said that the Czechs would be a tougher test....they totally shut them down.....and I expect another great defensive performance by them tonight....and hopefully they can bury their chances tonight....that's the only reason the Czechs were not blown out 10-1....Bring home the gold to where it belongs, boys.....GO CANADA GO !!!!

Hey YYC...you must subscribe to the NFL..the NO FUN LEAGUE...Fleury scores the biggest goal of his life...an overtime winner in a hotly contested series between bitter rivals....and what???....he should't show any emotion????.....There was absolutely nothing wrong with what Fluery did...it was not directed at the Oilers bench..He was just letting out some raw emotions.....You must live in a very boring world if you have to remain unemotional your whole life...

stacy, it was not ovenchkin who cupped his hand to his ear after the third russian goal, it was forward sergei shirokov. it is a rather moot point, as ovenchkin was pretty much an idiot near the end of the game, waving buh-bye to the crowd, pointing to the russian symbol on his chest, and to his own name on the back of his jersey.

as for picking the russian bear to win the game, that is your prerogative. let's just say, you have two good teams duking it out, and only one of them can win! in a one game scenario, anything can, and usually does, happen. but, seeing as i am from canada, make no doubt who i hope will win it!

good luck boys, bring it home!

I love arguing hockey with a woman who understands the game.

However, I'm going to question how you are saying that the Russian team is more offensively gifted.

Both teams have played 5 games Russia has scored 28 goals ( a few empty netters included) and Canada has scored 35 goals.

They have also allowed fewer goals.

Russia may win, but Canada should win.

Stacy, here's the difference. The Russians have the most skilled player in the tournament but the Canadians have the best defence and they have scored by committee. Evidence by them setting the World Junior record for goals during the round robin.

Ovechkin is amazing, 7th in scoring in the Russian elite league, but look for Phaneuf to T off on him as he comes to the middle. He may not hit him but he will keep him thinking. And the worst player in hockey is a scared russian. I've played with many of them.

Defence first hockey wins championships, and that starts with the goaltending. Russian goalie isn't great but Glass hasn't impressed me either. His save percentage may be high but that's padded by a lot of long shots. This is a wash-out.

Devensively the Canadians have the stronger core and I think they'll control Ovechkin just enough.

I do look forward to this game. It will be fun.

Stacy, I do admire a woman who knows her hockey. You are surprising. Don't even tell me that you play the game or I'm flying to TO right now!

Your description of the events was wrong. Darling.

Ovechkin taunted the crowd by jumping into his bench, then got into it with the fans behind the Russians by pointing to the name on the back of his jersey.

*Shirokov* put his hand to his ear to listen for the fans after he scored.

*Malkin* taunted the US bench after he scored in the empty net.

Sorry, but you should pay closer attention next time. Not everyone on the ice scoring for the Russians was Ovechkin.

Darling.

Sure he got away with it. Game 6 iagainst the Oilers in 1986 when he scored the game winner in O.T. and he started skating around the ice like he had an iron filing and hot sauce enema and ended up sliding on his knees into the boards for about a quarter of the length of the ice.
And he got the rep as a bad team player.
So, in what way did he "get away with it"?

Sheesh.

Again, if you're arguing that young Russian players don't have a rep for hotdogging why don't you ask around.

Clearly too many folks who can't pay attention or don't know hockey.
Naturally, n_v (who I guess is badmouthing me again LOL) falls into both categories.

I base my prediction on Russia having the more offensively gifted team. Whenever Canada makes it to the gold medal game, Canadians are quick to say how Canada has the better team, have more heart, are tougher, etc.

What happend during the gold medal game in Winnipeg, in the Czech Republic and in Halifax? Canada was leading in all those games and yet Russia was able to come back and snatch victory from the jaws of defeat. Why you ask? Simply because Russia's superior skill eventually overcame Canada's.

The same will hold true tonight.
Why does Russia have the more gifted offensive team?
Care to back that up?
You a professional scout??

LOL

Too much.

McPhee can't be happy with Ovechkin in this tournament. He's proving to be a total suck-ass as a player, with no grit and not enough skill to cover the mustard.

ovenchkin definitely does not lack skill. what he lacks is some brains, because, when you play the way he does, hot-dogging and showboating, you are basically painting a bullseye all over you, asking guys to tee off on you. i think the mouth of the north, pierre mcguire, even noted as much tonite.

if he comes into the NHL like that, i would say he is going to have a very painful career. and i thought that ilya kovalchuk was a showman, he has got nothing on ovenchkin. what is with the recent crop of young russian players? they seemingly are getting more dirty, and more arrogant, every year. the older russian players, guys like igor larionov, sergei makarov, and slava fetisov, to name a few, they had class.

the guy who really peeves me though, is this evgeni malkin kid, he just looks like a total moron. his statement after the USA game, that he didnt think he did anything wrong, was so full of shit! he is another guy who will face some difficulties down the road, if he doesnt adjust his attitude.

Plyrs99

oh yeah....6 to 1, with about 10 minutes left. just hope this game stays clean.

Let's be honest here....

..most of us thought that the Russians would be more of a challenge tonight..In fact, the Canadians were a little less disciplined than usual...I really thought the parade to the penalty box in the 1st period would kill them....Instead, on that 2 man advantage, the much questioned Cdn goalie made some key saves...And the fact that they came out fast in the second...as Pierre said.."blew their doors off"...They had the finish on their chances tonight that they didn't in the Czech game...and the Russians had no answers for the strong physical play by all 4 lines...This team was truly men among boys.... CONGRATS TEAM CANADA....If this is the last meaningful hockey game we see in a while....then it was a great way to finish....Hey Ranger...quit actiong so damn arrogant about this.....it's exactly the same as what we were accusing some of the Russians of in the USA game
.Very tastless and classless.....

We won, and I'm happy and proud of the team that represented this country....but there is no reason for fans to be poor winners.....and Stacy...it's almost every guy's fantasy when a woman is strikingly beautiful and has a love and knowledge of sports...Your logical thinking just didn't pan out tonight....and you haven't said whether you are happy that it didn't...but since you are living in this country...I'll assume you were....

Are you a professional scout? I didn't think so. I hope getting this prediction right makes your pathetic loveless life worth living.Fuck you, loser, jerk off, fuck face.

Congratulations Canada. I severly underestimated you guys.
I pointed out where you were wrong, at which point you responded to my post with derision. You reap what you sow.
You *severely and with no justification* underestimated the Canadian team.
Sorry, but ANYONE WHO KNOWS HOCKEY knew that that Canadian team was something out of the ordinary.
LOL
Have a nice day, darling.
