He was confrontational and judgemental from the very beginning, and accused her of being a criminal.

I park at McDonalds ALL the time to take a nap, go to the bathroom, and grab something to eat. Is it illegal to take a break in you car at a fast food place?

I swear, these low IQ, power-tripping cops are costing taxpayers a hell of a lot of money. I bet you nothing is going to happen to him either.

UPDATE: not only was the cop not disciplined, he was promoted with a higher pay and position.

La la land
Assholes everywhere get promoted and not the nice guy or hard working guy. I see it as way to piss others and the nice or hard working person will leave the establishment.

Seen it to many times, that I just laugh and move on.

Where did this happen? Is this the thing in California? Do you really have to venture that far afield to find instances where cops mess up or are you trying to cherry-pick stuff?

If you have to go all the way to California to cite instances of cops screwing up, then overall it really can't be that bad. Is that the point you're trying to make?

In Toronto, such uber assholes are lauded, praised and promoted within the TPS:

How can you equate this with an unlawful arrest in the USA?

In Canada, the OP's case demonstrates a clear violation of the Charter and Criminal Code.

The case that you posted is an example of what police must do as part of their job. When police are faced with imminent danger, it is their job to shoot to kill. The officer isn't "getting away" with killing... it's part of his job to kill in such situations. Whereas your job description and mine never include death, theirs does. Cops are trained to use lethal force against bad people when those people present grievance bodily harm or death to the officer. They take an oath on it.

In the second case you're disregarding the internal investigations, the SIU investigations, the court verdicts, and the officer's decades-long record as an officer.

Do you not have any faith in the combination of the Canadian justice system, third party investigations, and documented performance records?

As a Canadian citizen, you are also protected by law in using force necessary to protect yourself from death. It just so happens that police find themselves around bad people more often than you do, because of their job description, so they are required to exercise that right more often than you.

It's a recurring problems
In many cities, cops cost a LOT of money with these kinds of payouts.
It's a lot like tax payer bailouts for all kinds of things like city bureaucratic and construction job mismanagement... it's just those are not as salient as a cop in the wrong. It's also not as sexy for news coverage. But it's a recurring problem and the dollar figures are astounding.

Regarding cops specifically... lots of differences between here in Canada and in the USA. Different training, different demographics, different salaries, different laws, different avenues of recourse, different culture. Many of you need to start differentiating the two considering that 90% of the anti-cop venting on this forum are directed at people and events occurring in the USA.

The owners can get you cited for trespassing so yes, it can be illegal to take a nap there.

We're talking about outrageous, asshole cops aren't we?

I think my cop, Rick Shank, better known as Dick Skank, out assholes your cop any day.

The perp, culprit and the uber asshole culpable for 2 on duty deaths plus 1 savage on duty beating = promotion to Superintendent with the TPS kind of sums up the ethos of the TPS.

"Yesh, Mr, Skank here is an excellent candidate and has all the qualifications, ethics, character, killings and beatings, to be a top echelon leader of the TPS" - The TPS
