Was having a conversation with a older gentleman (70+) yesterday. He has been semi-retire for 10+ years, wealthy, not a single worry in life.

We were talking about the pandemic and how diffcult it is for younger generation. I can't believe how out of touch people could be. They still think university is less than 10k, rental is $750, and phone bill is $25/month.

Which led me to realize, these are the exact same people who are leading the countries. They have no idea what the general population's live are like.

I do believe that you are right when you say certain people are definitely out of touch with reality.

Sounds like my dad. Love the man to bits, but he still, for the life of him, cannot understand why people who don't like their job just don't quit on a Friday and then start a new job on Monday.

Don't think so, but pretty sure he talks to other people, like myself, but that doesn't change his mind. He would simply agree and continue with what he think is right. Whats good does that mean if he doesn't change his opinion. Is the fact that these people don't change their view to keep up with the society scares me

Not necessary but definitely the privileges groups. I could be completely wrong tho. Just the fact that they don't adjust their view of the world kinda scare me

The old fart boomer are still the one dictating legislature... 3 generations have live under without having a chance to say or change much...

I pity the younger generation coming out of university with 100k debt, being refused a 2k/month mortgage yet they pay the same for renting a 3 bedroom apartment...

We are heading to generations that will forever be renters to a few owners. In the US big capital firm are buying house giving any price asked and without even seeing them.

I was one of the lucky ones that getting 50k fresh out of university, but it definitely wasn't enough. I was living in those rooming houses in North York for $750, just so that I can pay off my tuition, afford food, and saved enough to rent somewhere else. I know the room I used to rent is costing like $1200 now, and salary for new grad is pretty much 50k or less .....

Isn't a quick glance at the real estate market enough proof needed to know that shit is expensive and inflation is an ever growing beast?
When the average salary can't afford the average home, maybe, just maybe something is not right...

Well these young people also want no teachers strikes( past Liberal governments gave them anything they want). Which leads to higher tuition.
They buy $700-$1000 cell phones with every package option. Most want to live right downtown which is the most expensive real estate in Ontario. Running up credit card debt and paying the minimum monthly payment.
Taking useless programs in University that lead to useless low paying jobs.
I have no sympathy for the younger generation and their financial problems. You dug the hole, dig yourself out. Stop loving beyond your means.

The point is that world leaders are much more informed about things that they need to decisions on than the average old guy on the street.

Its all the other garbage (eg hardware subsidies) that make it expensive


As well unless you are a foreign student tuition for undergrads is significantly less than 10K
Toronto (who is closest and most relevant to us) has a range of $6,100 to $11,420 last year

You touched on a huge thing here; the skyrocketing cost of living combined with stagnating salaries.

My dad, in 1985, was earning about $55,000 per year. Again, that's 35 years ago, and probably akin to about $70,000 in today's money. He has it on good authority that the person working his old job today -- here in 2021 -- is earning $47,000 per year. That doesn't add up.

They start at 40, then 50, and 60 is cracking point, then 65 kaka-boom. They will lead you on in the conversation but in reality "my way is correct" mentality cannot be changed. Unless they go broke.

$25 is totally do about if you just need to call. No text no nothing. I pay about $45 for everything AFTER all the negotiations I have to go though.

Tuitions is based on the subject you think I believe. I could be complete wrong tho

If you do find a room for $750 in North York do let me know. I know people looking for it.
