We have a shortage of tradesman, but yet you have to jump through hula hoops to become one.
Isn't that the point? Like any job, there has to be some initiative and talent involved.
I work with a lot of tradesmen and a sizable amount of them have no business being on the tools. They must have got their license by mail order.
They can't diagnose, always refer to manuals, and take 3x as long to do the job.
The worst is they give up so easily and walk away making up some lame excuse.

All of that is true, no matter the field. This is somewhat different, given there has been a known shortage for years, it’s going to get worse. There’s a need for houses and more. And no, getting established isn’t as easy as just getting a degree, getting hired and sink or swim.

I heard once that government gift shops pay well.
By the way, what do underwater welders get paid?

You want kids to become electricians, plumbers, roofers, carpenters, tailors, farmers, butchers, bakers, truck drivers? Please.

We need diversity consultants, anti-racism instructors, equity officers. It's the current year people!
We need Morlocks, but you want Elois?

Kids today are after the glamor/Big Bucks jobs. They do not want to be brick layers, plumbers/ electricians. The media has portrayed jobs like being a lawyer to be glamorous, but in actual fact it is a lot of tedious paper work. They do not know that some lawyers can not cut it so they can not get the $250k plus that top lawyers make and have to do a 9 to 5 corporate gig for about the same pay as a patrol cop.

The media
Hollywood
Sports
Parents
Politicians
Educators
People

That have all fallen into the rat race and trap.
That the only way, and only measure of success.

Is a degree, white collar job, and $$

While maybe not entirely fair.
