Ontario has changed the test in that there is no longer a dyno test. it is all based on the vehicles on-board computer with an idle test and then a 2500 rpm test.
I have been reading where a lot of stuff is failing, and used car lots are pulling their hair out to get older stuff to pass .
From what I've been told , If there's any engine codes the vehicle basically fails. Clearing the codes won't work either because the emissions test is also scanning for history and clearing the codes clears the history too.
Anyway, I have a 17 yr old vehicle that I use for work, I replaced it last fall with a new one but keep this for occasional use, maybe a few times per week when needed. it has 300plus k on it.It runs great but for the last 2 etests it had just barely passed. needs cat & o2 sensors . I ran it thru in December and it just marginally failed. took it in last week to get a conditional on it , but it actually passed with flying colours , because the fail before was on the dyno test, the curb idle was always very good numbers.
I get random check engine light (due to O2 sensors) but it hasn't been on for several weeks now.
here is one for the new improved Drive Clean!
I was chatting with the tech after and he said They have tightened up the bogus scans , there is a camera mounted in the drive clean bay area , and the tech has to take a picture of the vin number before starting the test. He had been contacted by the drive clean people when he did a fast fix on a vehicle and put it back on the test in 20 minutes . all was good but he just had to explain why /how he was back testing so quickly. Kinda like big brother watching your every move, but I'm sure there were a few guys doing bogus scans making it look bad for everyone, thus the tightening up
