Do not apply for your old age pension.

Apply to be a refugee.

It is interesting that the federal government provides a single refugee with a monthly allowance of $1,890.00 and each can get an additional $580.00 in social assistance for a total of $2,470.00. This compares very well to a single pensioner who, after contributing to the growth and development of Canada for 40 or 50 years, can only receive a monthly maximum of $1,012.00 in old age pension and Guaranteed Income Supplement.

Maybe our pensioners should apply as refugees! Let's send this thought to as many Canadians as we can and maybe we can get the refugees cut back to $1,012.00 and the pensioners up to $2,470.00, so they can enjoy the money they were forced to submit to the Canadian government for those 40 to 50 years.

Anyone else get this email?

I know I would like the law passed in the US

This is total ridiculous! I'm not saying that refugees shouldn't be taken care of by the government. But the amount that they're getting from the government is more than the net monthly income a lot of people who has to work really hard for 10 hours a day. Also, I heard that most refugees work on cash basis while they're still receiving assistance from the government. That means they don't even pay income tax!!!!!!!!

That's how fucked up things are in this country.

That and for some reason, when I think of refugees, I think of some laughing somalian war lord's wife collecting several cheques from the gov't.

I have no idea if this is true, but I wouldn't doubt it.

Well, I will most certainly say that refugees SHOULDN'T be taken care of by the government...at least not permanantly. Maybe for a month or two they should be given a place to stay and given a list of contacts etc but jesus, almost 2 grand a month?

The amount is somewhat excessive. However, you should realize a few things: Refugees are not immediately authorized to work legally, and even when they get a temporary SIN, they are not eligible for all jobs. Many employers would sooner hire a Canadian retiree who's bored and loney instead of a refugee claimant who actually needs a job.

Refugees do have expenses associated witht their claims process, such as transportation to attend many meetings and hearings, obtaining and transporting information about themselves from their country, and getting decent representation.

The amount should probably be reduced by a few hounderd dollars. But drop it to bellow welfare would basically be giving the message to refugees that they'd better find some illegal way to make extra money if they want to survive here.

The real issue is to speed up the proccess, sort out the phoney claimants and those who abuse the procces.

Is this really true? If someone had "contributed" by working, they would get CPP which is much more. In any case it's a desperate situation for widowers who haven't worked much and don't have family to support them - try living in Toronto on $1000 a month.

ODSP pays a maximum of $959.00 month. Try living on that, anywhere.

Refs....

First I will say that there are hard working honest refs out there who have come to make a better life for themselves & their families....

BUT - there are also those who come here under false pretenses (sp?), have criminal backgrounds, do crimes while here, bring their bigotry & hatred & religious intolerance here, sit on a couch - drink - and spit out kids, do NOTHING to contribute to Canadian society, etc....

In the second case they should have their buts KICKED OUT!! NO EXCEPTIONS.

I think I am feeling dizzy.

I actually agree with you for once.

After WW2, how many refugees did Canada accept?

Millions?

The government didn't give them shit and somehow they made it in spades and made a fine contribution.

Even as a combat veteran from the British Army Dad had to have a job already lined up before he was allowed to come here. No "family reunification" crap then, you did it on your own.
