If you're looking just for general content/porn then yes, free is obviously way easier and cheaper.
Specifically SP's offering Onlyfans it does give us the clients a couple options.
1 - If you have seen a SP and she's a favorite, but she has only a few profile photos online (agency ladies for example) and no other online photos such as twitter, OF gives you access to photos and perhaps videos of the SP you have seen before and will see again.
2 - For a SP you have not met yet but interested in, OF can be a very low cost first look of photos and videos before you spend hundreds of dollars on a session with her. This reminds me of the MP Spa's when they would offer to have the ladies come out and meet/greet you on a walk by before choosing who you wanted to visit with.
Many ladies do not offer much content in their base subscription as it's been already shared here and are trying to upsell the better content/videos within their OF - it's their choice to do so.
Some ladies do have some impressive libraries of content and put the effort in to keep updating their offerings to keep gents subscribing and of course if they are active as SP's their OF can be a helpful marketing tool.
Like having in-person session, you have to research the provider. Some have little content, some have lots.
Some, like me, have private porn sites - so like an onlyfans, just not on their platform, which you can look out for with some of your favourite SPs. Some offer explicit content on Snapchat, Twitter, etc
For me, I get guys who are across Canada. So guys I met on the east coast. They get to have a little taste, or reminder of me. For guys in the western part of Canada, they get to see who will be coming to visit. The rest are clients here at home that I usually see but can’t because of COVID.
But I have lots of other clients who are not interested because there is tons of free porn and they would prefer live and in-person.
So your reasonings will be your own and maybe it is not worth it to you.

I hate the platform, you pay a subscription so that you can find out you have to pay even more for the good stuff, it feels more like joining a fucking cult then buying porn. And you can't even save stuff without 3rd party software (I understand why, but it still reduces the value), the only redeeming feature is that its getting chicks naked that normally eouldn't feel safe enough to do so.
That being said for the right chick with the right content at the right price I'd try it again, but the offer has come.

After deciding to give it another try, my prepaid MasterCard comes up as denied by bank. If that’s the case with credit cards, how else would you pay?

Just a little update here, I removed the prepaid MasterCard and then uploaded it again a couple days later and behold, it’s working again! Don’t know if it will get denied again but it’s working for now!
This is one of the reasons why I choose to create my own site. So that I can process anonymous style billing via prepaid CCs.
Did you have to go through a verification process? When i tried to use a prepaid visa you had to to go through a verification process where onlyfans would debit a small random amount in USD and then you would have to enter the amount in USD on the onlyfans website. The problem is my prepaid visa is canadian so you have no idea what the cad/usd conversion is
Visa and MasterCard are accepted. American Express has removed itself as a payment means on most all sexwork-related platforms, if not mistaken.
I haven't yet tried a prepaid credit card on OnlyFans, but they have been accepted in the past on various clip sites (clips4sale, etc).
When I put the number etc in on the site i didn’t touch the verify button at all. I just started using the card.
