I own a copy of a very interesting book titled 'The Billboard Book of One-Hit Wonders' by Wayne Jancik. The author defines a one-hit wonder as a song that reached the Top 20 in Billboard (an American publication) by an artist who never again made the Top 40. It covers the period from 1955 to 1992. There have been over 700 such one-hit wonders.

Here's the list from the randomly selected year of 1970:

Evil Woman Don't Play Your Games With Me - Crow
Venus - Shocking Blue
Hey There Lonely Girl - Eddie Holman
Ma Belle Amie - Tee Set
The Rapper - Jaggerz
Love Grows (Where My Rosemary Goes) - Edison Lighthouse
The House of the Rising Sun - Frijid Pink
Spirit in the Sky - Norman Greenbaum
Long Lonesome Highway - Michael Parks
Reflections of My Life - Marmalade
Vehicle - Ides of March
My Baby Loves Lovin' - White Plains
Ride Captain Ride - Blues Image
O-o-h Child - Five Stairsteps
Gimme Dat Ding - Pipkins
A Song of Joy - Miguel Rios
Are You Ready? - Pacific Gas & Electric
Tighter, Tighter - Alive and Kicking
Spill the Wine - Eric Burdon and War
Lay a Little Lovin' on Me - Robin McNamara
Overture From Tommy - Assembled Multitude
In the Summertime - Mungo Jerry
Rubber Duckie - Ernie
All Right Now - Free
Indiana Wants Me - R. Dean Taylor
Somebody's Been Sleeping - One Hundred Proof
Montego Bay - Bobby Bloom
5-10-15-20 (25-30 Years of Love) - Presidents

Dead or Alive,..I now recall the other songs mentioned, thanks

and that picture of Pete Burns...I thought he was strange in the 80's? he is giving Marilyn Manson a run now.

XTC,.."Generals and Majors", "Senses Working Overtime" and Ballad of peter Pumpkinhead" to name 3 more. The lead singer(Andy Partridge) suffers from horrible stage fright which sort of ended their touring plans. Still are quite popular though

How about..

T-Rex: Get it On

Weezer has been around for a while now and have had a few hit songs with heavy radio play - The Sweater Song was big along with "Buddy Holly" - both songs were on the self-titled album, which sold over 2 million copies. Their second album wasn't really big, but their last album had Island In The Sun on it, which was a huge song on the radio and MTV... They definitely aren't a one hit wonder, although they have a smaller and somewhat more eclectic niche in the music world than a lot of other bands that sell in the millions.

and did the Norther Pikes have any hits other than "Teenland"??
Yes, they had an album called "Snow in June" in 1991 that had a few hits that got played to death, then they dropped out of sight. "Kiss Me You Fool", "Girl with a Problem", and "She Ain't Pretty (she just looks that way)". The video for that one was pretty funny...

One hit wonder in all the 60's movies

This song by Strawberry Alarmclock is a one hit wonder that seems to find its way into all or most of the 60's psychedelic movies is "Insense and Peppermint"

Nick Kershaw had more than one hit, all from the same LP:
-The Riddle
-I won't let the sun go down

May be some of you will remember this guy, Howard Jones, who came out around the same time as Nick Kershaw. However, Howard Jones was more lucky in terms of commercial success than fellow countryman Nick, as a recroding artist.
Here are a few by Howard Jones:

-New song
-What is love
-No one is to blame

The Look of Love by ABC was a great track, but they had more as well, such as:
-Poison arrow
-Be near me
-When Smokie sings

anyone remembers her ?

Here is another one:

The Morning After - by Maureen McGovern.
The song from The Poseidon Adventure ( the movie , mid 1970's)

She had other minor hits , but this was her most famous one, a nice hauntingly beautiful ballad, from an excellent movie then.

Rick Springfield was a bigger success than most realize. He released "Working Class Dog" in 1981, which had several hits on it including, "Jessie's Girl" which reached number 1, and the Top 10 songs "I've Done Everything For You", and "Don't Talk To Strangers". Then he starred in Hard to Hold, a truly terrible movie where he played a rock star, and the single from that movie, "Love Somebody" was also huge. After he released Working Class Dog, which sold in the multi-millions, every single album he released in the 80's (he released 7 in the 80's) all sold in the millions. Strange but true.

Never once did I see any champagne while in that room Berlin.
:D Exactly. Champagne my ass. Anyway, all the action didn't happen there, and I am happy I never got duped into hitting that room. With the entrance fee they charged for that bright lit room, they were actually way ahead of Pro Cafe then LOL.

OK Back to the main thread...
