Interesting chart Dan.

Are there any of these comparatives based on financial criteria such GDP, or average personal income, or average personal net worth?

BTW, Canada is only 32nd. It must be Trudeau's fault.

Good one, but on a serious note, it's the fault of the people still wimpering in their closets at home, losing muscle mass and not getting enough natural vitamin D. Less people to choose from. I'm sure you are still scared and not athletic so you will disagree.

If you are responding to me, I don't think that people aspiring to be Olympic athletes lost their drive because of covid.

And actually, compared to historical Canadian results, I think that Canada has done a great job of being much more competitive than they used to be. The "Own the Podium" programme seems to have been successful.

No way that Canada will ever beat countries like U.S., China, Russia. Germany, France, Italy, Great Britain would also require very big leaps forward (BTW, I am talking Summer Games). So if Canada is 13th in medals, realistically, there are maybe only 4 or 5 countries that we have a chance to overcome. Gone are the days when Greg Joy's silver is the high point of our accomplishments.

I am laying no blame at anyone's feet because there is nothing to blame anybody for. I feel that we do fairly respectably nowadays.

And lastly, I'd rather be 1st in vaccinations along with our citizenry's societal sense of co-operation than 1st at the Olympics.

I expected India to be last on this list. I know they got one of their Golds in skeet shooting, or a similar rifle event. Hence, this joke:

There are only two sports in India: Cricket, and Spelling Bee. If you can't defend a doosra on a slow pitch, you learn how to spell fackeltanz.
