Congrats to Becky Scott and Sarah Renner, however lets hope like some of our atheletes from previous games we will not have to see them compete against canada in the next winter games! (As some of our best atheletes have had to move to other countries to get the support they need to continue in the sport they love) And what do these olympic medalists get from all of this achievement..If your from canada..maybe a
quick 20 second commercial and a few grand thrown your way..unlike the stars who return in Europe and the US who never have to worry again about where their next meal will be...If I recall correctly from previous conversations, we currently have the womens world champ in the oval cycle...I think she has had to drop out from the next summer olympics because she was financially in debt....now where are our expectations...

Maybe Canadians should invent sports only they are good at, like the Americans did with basketball years ago and now with snowboarding. The U.S. didn't lose an Olympic basketball game for like 80 years, although, of course, now that fun is over. And so far, the U.S. has dominated Olympic snowboarding.

How about curling? Wasn't curling invented in Canada?

We should have sent our team at least a week or two early. Because of altitude differences they are lacking air, and can get sick really easy. I was at the 2002 olympics for the entire time and it was hard on all people.
They train at Canmore amongst other venues. They are or should be already altitude conditioned and if not then they and their coaches should be executed post-haste

I did not know that, but the game itself was invented while he resided in the U.S. So if the game was invented by a Canadian, why does Canada suck at it? And okay, the U.S. didn't lose a game for like 60 years. Whatever.

Agreed. Our expectations are too high, without the necessary support being available to them.
Wait a minute ... Okay, maybe the funding comment is ture for why there are not as many "out of no where" medals by Canadians as much as Americans but what about the favourites that I've mentioned.

Browning, Orser, Wotherspoon, Chouinard, etc. all have/had endorsements before there Olympic runs. These few were NOT part of the impoverished. These people choked plain and simple.

At least our Canadian athletes choke gracefully. Someone please put a sock in Bode Miller's mouth. You mouthed off before the games, you're choking and now you're trying to play it off like it don't matter. Go listen to your Simple Plan and Avril Lavigne CD's to stew over how the world hates you you overaged jackass teenage wannabe.

Congrats to Beckie Scott and I'm glad I can pull her out of the choking bin. Maybe she'll get another delayed gold this time around.

No, that was a noteworthy accomplishment of our Scottish laddies ( believe abt 1530 or so, i.e. a few centuries after they got bored of doing only golf year-round ! )

P.S. There is some snow left on Mt. Kenya as well ( at least there was when I looked at it last 2 mo's ago)

I had been wondering, why is it only Northern Hemisphere athletes seem to do well at the Winter Games?
Same reason why 90% of American hockey players in the NHL are from like 3 states (Minnesota, Michigan, Massachusetts). Why play hockey inside a rink in Texas when you can play some baseball in the sun?

Yes, yes, very enlightening.

I'm not talking about countries in the tropics. I'm talking about countries in the Southern Hemisphere that have snow, per the earlier lesson.

The poster girl would be figure skater Josee Chouinard, she always seemed to choke at the big competitions like the Olympics, but she's really cute!

Hey nobody could clean the ice for the other competitors as well as Josee.
And she always did look so cute crying afterwards.

Hockey guys hockey..that is all that matters. As long as we bring home the gold in hockey mens and women, I can bare the rest of the atheletes losing face.
BTW, curling is cool too.
I disagree with the hockey theme. Women fine, it's their time to shine but I am constantly appalled by professional hockey players being at the games.

The NHL boys take the light off of the people that deserve what little attention they may get. Go amateur or nix the sport from the schedule.

I can watch professional hockey any day of the week and I am disgusted by the sycophant coverage that these NHL athletes recieve during the Olympics. I also feel this way about the NBA and the Russian Hockey Federation.

They had a freaking men's hockey PRACTICE on yesterday!

A fucking practice! Jebus!

Jock sniffing sycophants catering to one sport mentality jock sniffers.

Certainly, these sports could be better managed a la Olympic baseball.

Curling I'm not sure has a place in the Olympics but many countires are into it so who am I to say. Go Curlers.
