Old man's TV crapped out on him, SONY of all brands

It made a funny noise, then pop, nothing.
Now when he turns on the TV, it makes some noise, a grinding noise for a few seconds, then silence... then again, then silence and a third time... then the power button flashes red 3 times.

Model KF-E50A10 DLP from 5 years ago.

Any suggestions for repair people or just hit the ads in craigslist and kijiji and get a repair dude from there?

It is one of those LCD rear projection TV, right? It may just be a matter of replacing the lamp inside

Mine's doing the same thing, except I think it's 4 green lights. New lamp- no change (ARGH......129 bucks). I was all over the net looking for solutions and it may be a safety switch on the cover for the lamp. There's a switch there and another one when the lamp seats properly. I hear them click, but cannot find the problem. For 100 buck bench charge plus parts, I bought a big plasma instead. I paid 2000 bucks for the LCD in 2006 and 500 for the plasma (same size) in 2011. I feel your dad's pain.
