WHO here has gone before? I might consider going this year. It's not just drinking beer! There is a huge carnival, bands playing, and street festivals I can just imagine all the beautiful ladies partying it up with me

Munich- 17/09/11 - 03/10/11/

I would not even need to look for escorts over there!

I have been and it is good and bad. There are times it is so full of Japanese and Italian tourists it doesn't seem like Germany, but if you do your homework there are dates that the Germans tend to go out and you can avoid too many tourists.

Personally, if you are looking for a really authentic experience, avoid Munich and good to smaller locations in Bavaria or Austria where they have similar festivals or Kellarfests, which are just as much fun and more authentic...

And after drinking all day, go to your hotel's steam room...all are clothing optional, and few Europeans wear anything. Met some beauties there...

Skip it. Its just a bunch of giant beer tents and tables, set up well outside the downtown core, crowded too noisy and not at all like old Germany with its character and flavour. Its the CNE of beer festivals. Instead, go to Munich in November or in the spring, when its not as crowded but oh so charming. You can drink beer with actual Bavarians in so many gasthaus and bars, including the hofbrauhaus where you will get the Oktoberfest experience without the tens of thousands of tourists. While there, spend a night or two in the town of Oberammergau or a similar village and absorb some of Bavaria's true flavour.
