Perhaps but most assuredly, Dean Singleton is a moron. How does one so addle minded become AP chairman?

He appears to be a simple, petty, uneducated man of the people. POTUS material if there ever was, eh Aardvark?

LMAO! I honestly got a chuckle out of that one. :D

You see, elitists like me and Obama can sometimes get down in the muck and enjoy the low brow, unsophisticated humour of the common man.
I could stand for more of this, I was starting to think I was at another San Fran wine tasting......

I don't know what I find more surprising. The fact you believe everyone in San Francisco thinks like your friends, or that you actually have friends. :p

Here is my nickel analysis....

"You go into these small towns in Pennsylvania and, like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years. ...

Yes, the rustbelt has had net job losses.... just read the DQ rants....

And it's not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns

This is a stupid comment, he's just playing to the coastal view of middle America as a bunch of rednecks driving pickups with gun-racks (what idiot D said that?)

or religion

Again stupid, he's now playing to the liberal/Jewish/secular coasties view that the middle of the country is filled with evangelical nuts. The TOV/Pekkkr post history will give you plenty of examples of this POV.

or antipathy to people who aren't like them

This is actually his point, he's saying he's getting his ass kicked with white blue collar voters because he's black..... but he can't say that because 75% of the country is white and whitie might take offense to being called racist and he doesn't want those super delegates thinking he can't win....

or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations."

These two points I think are correct, the Lou Dobbs crowd (see the postings of DQ and Pekkkr) like to blame trade for the plight of the middle class. It is funny that he's been bashing NAFTA but he says that you have to be bitter to hold anti-trade views...... I guess his populism collided with his elitism.

All ranting aside, this is a tempest in a tea cup, I think it's a view into just how inexperienced a mind Obama has and how narrow his life experience has been.

bada bing......

I spend A LOT of time in San Fran, and lived / worked in NY for almost 7 years. I've heard a lot of simplistic characterizations of those of us lucky enough to grow up in the midwest.....

As for friends... I'm always amazed at the generosity of others, espically woman ;)

The friends remark was a low blow.

I have to admit you do have a certain amount of charm. Maybe it comes from the somewhat likable quality of your misguided ideals, naivite and your ability to be wrong pretty much all of the time. :D

At least I'm consistent......

And it's only a low blow if you can land it, something I've not yet seen.

Please provide a reference for your position.

The most prominent businessmen in the US are geeks.
Gates, Job, etc.

The US isn't as anti-intellectual as you propose.
Fact is, we respect wisdom and knowledge.

We're pragmatists, and we are very accepting.
Just give us the solutions, no matter from where.
Don, not when it comes to politicians be they Presidents or state Governors, or Federal or State Legislators.

My point is not that the U.S. doesn't value education - that would fly in the face of the facts. What I am saying is that historically and sociologically the U.S. has tended to value "homespunness" over sophistication, someone with a certain level of education over those with a great deal of education. Is it logical: I don't know and it would merely be my own bias to say no. But it certainly has been the American Pattern for over two centuries.

Countless Lawyers have been elected to high office and a fair number of Physicians but with the single exception of Woodrow Wilson I honestly can't think of another American politician who held a PhD., or before the research doctorate arrived on these shores an earned M.A.

I love San Fran, sure it's full of fruits and nuts but they are completely harmless and a fantastic source of entertainment. It's a great city, probably the second best in North America after NYC - great weather, wine, food, culture and a show on every street corner.

As for politics, I have at least (probably more) liberal friends and almost no real conservative friends - my R friends are like me, center right.
