Obama Gains in States Such as Iowa, Florida Give National Boost

By James Rowley and Kristin Jensen

Oct. 12 (Bloomberg) -- Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama is moving ahead in a series of new polls from Florida to Iowa, gains that are helping him maintain a national lead over Republican John McCain.

(Snip)
" In Florida, Obama is ahead 49 percent to 44 percent for McCain, according to a survey by Research 2000 of 600 likely voters taken Oct. 6-8. The survey has a margin of error of plus or minus 4 percentage points. In a poll in mid-September, McCain led Obama by 1 percentage point, 46 percent to 45 percent."

It's going to be a daunting three weeks for McCain. Obama is far better organized State to State on a community level, he has far more money to spend then McCain on a national level, and clearly has momentum that shows no sign of diminishing. The economy has definately been a big blow to McCain, but beyond that many in the GOP are grumbling that McCain has run a disorganized campaign. Hard to argue with. He's been all over the map in what his message is, and stood by while people at his rallys yelled "terrorist", "off with his head", and "kill him" directed at Obama, and until this weekend did nothing. McCain needs to choose one core issue for the next three weeks and stick to it. Probably he realizes it's already too late. When he stepped up to take the microphone away from the woman who called Obama an Arab, and said "No m'am, no m'am. He's a decent family man", I got the sense McCain was trying to resurrect his own decency before all this is over.

the best way JMcC can prove that he is a strong leader is to stop these crazy people dead in their tracks by saying "I don't think you should vote for him. I am better suited. But we don't need this divisiveness anymore, and I don't want the vote of anyone who thinks that way" I think John McCain is a great man who sold his soul to the republican machinery because he thought he could become president that way. But it became a classic faustian bargain and now he will likely be sunk by the very apparatus he intended to use to get to the top.
