Not so minor annoyances.

I stopped for launch, the other day, and the waitress insisted on calling me "sweety", "honey", "babe" and I found it very, very annoying; so much so that I asked her to stop. She was very surprised at that and taken aback. She really thought that she was offering a superior customer service.
Another thing that annoys me to no end is when clerks dispense with the customary "may I help you?" and switch to "yes?". My normal answer is "no" followed by a rebuke.

What I find annoying is being asked:

"How would you like to pay?"

I WOULDN'T!!!
Another one, when I bring my basket to the register: "would you like a bag?" No, I'm gonna stuff all this shit down my pants!

It's a tough job being a cashier. Certainly, I am not cut out for it and thankfully have other options for making money. What they do or say for that is ideal for one person is aggrevating for another. For this example, I would answer "no", because I usually have bags with me - sometimes visible, sometimes folded away in a pocket.

Years ago at a Licks burger joint, the young lady asked “how would you like your burger cooked?” Smartass that I am, I replied “ Ya, that would be a good idea.”

I could never understand what "insert your card, chip at the bottom" means, because you always hold a card with a chip facing up, on the top of your card.

Oftentimes people parrot phrases without realizing it's meaning.

Another annoyance while shopping is donations. I once entered a Wal-Mart and was asked for a donation at the entrance. After picking all items myself I went to a self checkout where at the end of transaction a computer asks you for another donation. After self served shopping you have to show your check to a security guard who wants to make sure you aren't stealing. Then, as you attempt to exit, there's someone else asking for yet another donation. Then you go to another store and repeat.

Customers who still pay with cash at the checkout and never seem to find the correct amount.

I always look at their name tag and then say "Hi XXXX, how are you today?". Because I used their name, the vast majority of them appreciate the gesture and you get better service.

Or, they think I am a nutbar.

Agree 100%. It's like shaming you into donating.

Ah, the donations. I have some fun with that. My two favorite answers: let the young bastards suffer or/and adversity builds character.

I don't carry my own shopping bag which they can plainly see.
