If the Liberals win the next federal election, will they stick to their guns and mandate 100% zero-emission vehicle sales by 2035 for all new light-duty vehicles? Something tells me that's not even close to being achievable.

I do not think they failed due to the lack of sales of EV cars. Which is not bad.

It seems governments need to subsidize EVs in order to make them attractive to buyers. The feds ended the $5,000 incentive in January, 2025.

Okay, so now you're picking and choosing which companies receive taxpayer funded subsidies, based on the fact you don't like Musk? I don't like him either, but that's a dumb way to decide policy.

And why do they need a chance? If they build a good product, sell it for a competitive price, that people are willing to pay, why should taxpayers be on the hook to subsidize the sale? And don't say, because EVs are saving the planet. Because they're not. It's a stupid argument.

When it comes to Canada, our massive land mass, our cold weather, outside of large cities with infrastructure in and limited distance to travel, they just don't make sense. Add in eventual disposal issues, environmental costs to build, actual lack of space on the electrical grid, need for subsudies, abd probably many more issues.

Cripes I have an E-bike to commute but won't in winter due to salt on the roads. It doesn't go well with lithium batteries.

We should be concentrating on hybrids.

Probably not many.

My car is mostly electric but has a range extender, 95% of my driving is electric. Its 10 years old now and I think battery capacities and charge speeds make EVs viable. You can add range to an EV at similar speeds to pumping gas with the latest tech.
