Thought provoking article in this week's issue of The Economist. Did the USA jump the shark in going after North Korea for hacking Sony Pictures?

http://www.economist.com/news/united-states/21637402-america-was-too-quick-blame-north-korea-hack-attack-sony-kim-jong-un

Japan has never shown sincere remorse for the abuse and exploitation of Koreans while it endured 40+ years as a satrap of Imperial Japan.

I've seen The Interview, it is the worst film Seth Rogen has ever made. Very disappointing for an actor/ writer who knows the difference between comedy and stupidity. It also wastes the talents of comic Randall Park as Kim. Why he agreed to take on the role, much less put on 40 lbs, is beyond me. Maybe Rogen knew the film was crap and played a part in engineering this shitstorm.

Just a thought - your thoughts?

I don't think Sony would have brought on its cyber attack for publicity. There was too much collateral damage done, that insurance cannot cover. Employee's personal information was compromised as was all of their servers and ability to function in all of their domains, not just Sony Pictures. If anything it caused a lot of conversation about the ability to have free speech in an internet world.

"May have been an inside job, not North Korea" - NY Post, LA Times

"US cybersecurity experts say they have solid evidence that a former employee helped hack Sony Pictures Entertainment’s computer system — and that it was not masterminded by North Korean cyberterrorists.

One leading cybersecurity firm, Norse Corp., said Monday it has narrowed its list of suspects to a group of six people — including at least one Sony veteran with the necessary technical background to carry out the attack, according to reports." - NY Post

Although it's still too early to say definitely what really happened, the IT Security community as a whole have been critical of the FBI report since it came out. I'm going to take this new information with a grain of salt for now, but if true this could prove embarrassing for the President and FBI. Although not directly responsible for defending civilian data networks, I'm surprised that the politicians haven't encouraged FBI-supporting comments from the Homelands Security, US Cyber Command or a well respected Security Firm.

Ppssssst.... Von? Wrong turn of phrase. US jumped the shark when its economy tanked and the Chinese became the big fucka on the global stage. What they did with this stupid movie was jump the GUN. (Now if that gun was being held by a shark... riding a grizzly bear.. that's skiing... and they put that in the stupid movie, then Oscar time, baby!)

Know that all too well bud. B4 9/11, I resigned from a lucrative position for opposing a planned move of an assembly plant from Memphis Tennessee to the PRC. They still when ahead with the scheme - but not on my watch. The plant was in Downsview in the late 80's but that's a different story.
