I find that Loblaws are much more expensive than most other grocers when comparing the same product. In my area, Walmart usually has the best prices.
I think it depends on which of their brands you use. No Frills is usually pretty cheap, while Loblaws or Fortino's are more expensive for the same items.

As for the price of chips or other items, the companies are using inflation as cover to jack up prices and increase margins. They basically brag about it on conference calls with analysts. Yes, they are experiencing higher costs for materials, packaging and transportation, but the price hikes are higher than those new costs. And....will the prices go down once the supply chain issues are resolved? Fuck no.

Now, I'm shocked Loblaw is playing hardball. I mean, usually they just pass the increase onto shoppers. The price hike must be egregious, or Loblaw doesn't want to buy inventory that shoppers might balk at paying for.

Bring back Hostess. :p
Actually I mostly buy the Kettle chips nowadays. The New York Cheddar flavor is gangster. Old Dutch roast chicken is pretty good too.

Damn. I loved Hostess chips back in the day. I used to be able to get them at Price Chopper up until a few years ago.

Just another victim of inflation, shipping disruption, and labor shortages. Those additional costs have to be paid for by someone. Each step along the supply chain usually absorbs some of the cost in the short-term, but it eventually ends up trickling down to the consumer. Loblaws balked for now, but this is a wider spread issue than just chips.

Your thread heading is only partially correct.
No More Chips At Loblaws Over Price Dispute With Fritolay

They won't be carrying Frito-Lay products for a while, but there are other brands on the market.

Didn't have time to read all the post but...jeeeez... can't believe the chip shortage has hit Loblaws. Not just automakers.

There is no chip shortage
Loblaws is playing games with the prices, they have been doing this for years. Remember a few years ago when they had a big price fixing scandal with their bread.
They really try and put the screws to smaller companies but it’s not as easy for them to do it to a large company like Pepsico. Remember it’s not just Frito Lay chips we’re talking about here it’s all the quaker products and several other companies that Pepsico owns. Soon Pepsi will be raising their prices along with Tropicana, all these companies are under the same banner.

Lays are awful potato chips.

Best potato chips ever, bar none, are Bret's. They're imported from France and not easy to find, but if you ever see them, pick up about 10 bags. Amazing.
