On the surface, it's a great and historical accomplishment.

However, with the new format, it pales in comparison to what it was.

Currently it's best of 3 matches and there's only 3 of them.

It used to be a years long process. Each tie was 5 matches of best of fives with no tiebreak. 4 singles and one doubles over 3 days and in a very hostile environment for one of the countries. It was a marathon. I think the problem was that with today's schedules and the money involved and potential injuries with those gruelling matches, it became too much of a commitment for many players.

The change in format is totally understandable, but it definitely still diminishes the enormity of the accomplishment.

Congrats to Canada.

I had no idea this got next to no publicity. All eyes on the World Cup I guess. Great achievement. Canada definitely an up and coming tennis power.
