Its too bad there is no version of Divx player for Ubuntu 9.10.
My favorite movie site uses Divx for streaming movies.
You sure ? I am using Ubuntu 8.04 and it handles almost all files I throw at it including Divx. Its too bad there is no version of Divx player for Ubuntu 9.10.
That's what I am doing now, download & watch later.had divx changed recently? Or are you saying you want it to play inside the browser?
All the divx I've ever had played with all of these:
vlc
mplayer
xine
totem
ffplayer
I almost never watch embedded video - much prefer to download & watch later.
Now I see what you mean. But my favorite site is ninjavideo.net, can't download without Divx player.
I found the above solution to my problem but when I tried to copy/paste the files to the firefox plugin folder, it said permission denied.Re: Divx web player
i was having the same problem. make sure you have the mozilla-mplayer plugin installed from the repo. it includes two files needed for making mplayer play divx within firefox
Code:
/usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/mplayerplug-in-dvx.so
/usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/mplayerplug-in-dvx.xpt
for some reason my firefox doesn't seem to see these files until i move into the /usr/lib/firefox/plugins directory. i don't know why this is the case since i've always thought it searched through both directories (if someone could explain this to me).
once i move these files and restart firefox i can see divx in the aboutlugins page
(i can't play the videos on the link that was provided above, but i think that is because it is pointing to a broken link - can see the other videos on the divx.com page)
Did you put that code in a terminal?I found the above solution to my problem but when I tried to copy/paste the files to the firefox plugin folder, it said permission denied.
Where can I set/reset the permission?
