NHL Trades and what should the Leafs do?

With today's trade of Viktor Kozlov from Florida to New Jersey do you feel it is time that Toronto makes a trade? If so, who/what do you think they need and who/what should they be willing to give up?

I honestly think Toronto needs a defenceman. The price for Gonchar seems to keep going higher and I am willing to bet that Toronto doesn't want to trade Matt Stajan and I think they would be foolish to trade him. Brian Leetch's name keeps on coming up and in a way it makes sense. Toronto could could use him on the power-play, he has a Stanley Cup ring and the asking price is fairly low.

Your thoughts?

Doesn't matter what anyone does. The Predators have been an ass kicking machine since acquiring Scott Sullivan from Chicago and will win the Stanley Cup.

I'm not accepting bets on that though.

Byron Dafoe from the Thrashers keeps coming up in trades to replace Kidd as backup. And it looks like the Leafs fell to 3rd choice in the Gonchar lottery as Colorado and New Jersey have moved up. Still waiting for the trigger to be pulled in that one though.

I think you mean Steve. He is good, but doesn't have what it takes to really kill in the playoffs.

Whats the most siginificant deadline deal the Leafs have pulled off in the last 5 years? If my memory serves me correct, Nolan last year and nothing else comes to mind....I want them to do something, but I dont think they will....I mean it still pisses me off to this day they didnt go after Blake, and now another elite d-man is on the market and this opportunity could very well pass by as well....which equates to adding another year of futility :(

Thanks for the correction Jeremy. Down south, we don't quite understand hockey (or the names) beyond the fights. I think Sully (I'll just call him that) has made the whole team better though so it isn't as if it rests on his shoulders. Before the recent outbreak of goals, the whole team acted like they were scared to shoot the farking puck. Granted they weren't getting alot of high percentage shots; but no shots = no goals = no wins.

Do I really think the Preds are going to win it?... Like I said, no bets from me. Just trying to get a laugh.

On a side note, I have to ask Jeremy if his location in the throne room is true? Must be great to have a computer in there. Most of us have to print those pictures or just try to rememeber.

Exactly why I don't cheer for them anymore. The Leafs are just a money grabbing entity with absolutely no regard for the fans nor are they serious about winning the Stanley Cup!!!!!!

Go Leafs Go !!!

Anaheim’s Keith Carney, Columbus’ Scott Lachance, Edmonton’s Jason Smith, Minnesota’s Brad Bombardir, and the Capitals’ Brendan Witt are also available and appear to be in the back of the mind of Ferguson Jr.

Leetch is a consumate rent-a-player. I might be wrong but I think he's signed for just this year (though it may have been a two-year deal) You ask me, Leetch is the kind of player you should be able to pick up for a middling prospect and no higher than a 2nd round pick.

Just a few moves to ponder...

I'll tell you what kills the Maple Leafs. First it was Ballard. Then when he was gone it was all thanks to the Ontario Teacher's Pension Fund who owns a chunk of the Leafs and who want profit and are tight on the money. Ontario Teacher's Union will make sure that the Leafs will never see a cup as long as they are the owners.

What's the line on Nashville? More than 100-to-1?

Forget the leafs.

The Leafs are built to get past one round of the playoffs. Every five years or so they get past two rounds in the playoffs. They have been expert at just spending enough money to accomplish this mediocrity. I have watched it year after year. For example what happened to the money they set aside for Svelha. As I recall Pat Quinn would not make a move to spend any money until Svehla commited. When Svehla decided not to come back I believe they pocketed the money.

The other thing is that they kept complaining about how they could not spend a penny more than what they budgeted for in 2003. That is why they could not make a move to get an extra free agent. However the Canadian $ rose from 65c to 75c so the Leafs did have extra money. Did they say well we have extra money to get a free agent? No, they quietly put the money back into their pockets. If the Canadian $ had dropped I am sure Maple Leaf Entertainment would have cried poor and raised the prices.

As a result I have stopped watching leaf games and find myself watching Vancouver whenever I have a chance. Vancouver may not win the Stanley Cup because they do not play the neutral zone trap but they are the most exciting to watch in the NHL. They have size in Bertuzzi and the Sedin brothers are two of the most skilfull "give and go" playmakers that I have ever seen.

So there it is stop watching the Leafs and watch Vancouver and Ottawa.

we need a power forward for sure.....Lindros would be nice once his headache goes away.....
Are you sane ??? Lindros ??? If he combs his hair too hard he'll give himself another concussion. And you'd rely on him ? Too funny ..... hehehe.

There is no doubt that well known players will be brought in by the Leafs before the deadline to try and get into the Finals. But they've pulled out of the horse race for Gonchar. They almost had a deal done for Gonchar and Witt, for Antropov, Pilar, Colaiacovo and a 2nd round pick. Now they're on the outside looking in with Philly, Boston and Colorado having the inside track for Gonchar.

Toronto is in the bidding for Jeff O'Neill but so is Philly, Vancouver and the Habs.

Tick, tick, tick .... 7 days and counting !

Come on!!!......the Leafs are one of the most exciting teams to watch.....with their size, talent and intensity, when they put pressure on the other team and bring it on they can be incredible!.....believe me, as a diehard Habs fan......I know!
....by the way.....5 wins in a row, 4 of these in the last minutes and against good teams (Ottawa, Boston and the Devils) !!!!......Not bad eh??

Equally as impressive is Tampa Bay winning over Colorado and taking over first place is the East.

On another note, it seems Pat Quinn would prefer the Leafs not make any moves that would send any young players the other way in any deal.

It comes down to injuries and goaltending. Up to now, the Leafs have been at or near the top. If they can avoid any more injuries, you never know, with their current roster they have as good a chance as Ottawa, Philly, NJ or TB. It would be nice to add some talent on the blueline, but if Belfour is healthy (?) and stays that way, good things can happen.
