I am confused.

This is a sample of the pool I am in:

Kansas City at Philadelphia (-3.5)

Houston at Baltimore (+2.5)

San Diego at Tennessee (-3.5)

St. Louis at Dallas (-3.5)
Fav teams: Phil,Houston,Tennessee and Dallas. These teams NEEDED to win by 4 pts or more. Except in the case of Houston they need to COVER by 3 pts. So,the trick is to know which teams are good enough to win by that many points. If you have doubts on the favourite teams, then you pick the underdogs with the points. For example, San Diego could lose to Tenn but they might lose by just 3 pts!
Don't worry you will get a hang of these things slowly as the season progress.

Surprised by the number of people that don't recognize how good this Chief defense is. They got play-makers on all 3 levels of the defense. One of the better linebacking corps in the league and their edge pass-rushers are really good. Terrific secondary too with guys like Smith, Flowers and Berry. Berry is one of the bright young safeties in this league. If I were building a team and could handpick a safety for my team I would take either Berry in KC or Thomas in SEA. This Dontari Poe is gonna be a player too.

Yeah, they're 3-0 and that's a fantastic start to the season. But,we'll see where they are before they're going into Denver in Week 11.

I think what we have to remember about the Chiefs is Alex Smith is a good QB. Remember, he was a mistake away (thanks to moron Kyle Williams) from taking San Fran to the Super Bowl.

I know KC is a different team but heck, 3-0 start since Montana was there in '93.
Alex Smith is somewhere between a game-manager and a difference-maker. I think he has proven now that he is better than your garden-variety game-manager QB. The thing that Alex Smith does well is he is very judicious with the football. He just refuses to force the ball into coverage and he knows when to throw the ball away . The one thing missing in this offense is a vertical element though. THey don't stretch the field vertically. However this was a similar formula that the 49ers used when Alex Smith was their QB. They played small-ball and played a ball-control field-position type game and it was successful because they had a good defense and special-teams. Same is the case in KC.

I like Miami at home, and the over in the wash/det game.
Normally I would say not a chance but Atlanta is hurting (lost mlb Weatherspoon, Roddy White is banged up). I like Miami at home as well.

I like the Vikes -6.5 to crush the Browns who are starting a QB worse than Weeden and some RB named Ogbonnaya.
I like Bears -2.5 on road at Pittsburgh, the Steelers just look bad offensively.

Dog of the week Indy +10.5 at SF. Gotta think Luck and Co. can keep this one close, no?

Your assumption is correct if u picked Philly then they have to win by more than 3.5 points. Plus(+) sign next to the number means the other team gives you the points. Your 'underdog' team just need to win outright or lose less than the given points in order to win the 'spread'.
For example,in week 3 I am playing the following NFL teams with point spreads posted next to them.
NY Giants -1.5
GB -3.0
STL +4.0
MIN -5.5
ARZ +8.5

Have fun!
Wow...0-5 for the weekend! LOL. That is why I would never quit my day job...lol..

The Vikes cost me a perfect week. How the hell they lost to the depleted Browns at home is beyond me.
