Nexus card

You mean Global Entry, not express right?? Global express is a courier company.
Yes, either autocorrect did it, or it's 5 AM and I'm not to bed yet, but I'm a late night person. It's 8 AM in Toronto.

Edit - thanks for the catch, changed it to Entry so I am not being shipped as a parcel :)

@Dave in Phoenix and you must be mistaken about Frankfurt, because that airport doesnt have a Global Entry kiosk.
Did you mean EasyPass perhaps??
I was in Frankfurt about 5 years ago. I know my Nexis worked, which includes Global Entry, but maybe they call it Easypass. But it worked :)

Off-topic, but the penalties for using your cellphone while driving are quite different in Florida than they are in Ontario.

Ontario penalties:

For First Convictions

  • Fine: $615 if settled out of court; up to $1,000 if fought in court.
  • Demerit Points: 3.
  • Licence Suspension: 3 days.
For Second Convictions (within 5 years)

  • Fine: $615 if settled out of court; up to $2,000 if fought in court.
  • Demerit Points: 6.
  • Licence Suspension: 7 days.
For Third and Subsequent Convictions (within 5 years)

  • Fine: $615 if settled out of court; up to $3,000 if fought in court.
  • Demerit Points: 6.
  • Licence Suspension: 30 days.

In Florida (where radar detectors are legal btw) the fines are:

Penalties for Distracted Driving in Florida
  • First offense:
A $30 fine, plus court fees. This is a noncriminal traffic violation that doesn't add points to your license for the first infraction.

  • Second (or subsequent) offense:
A $60 fine, court fees, and 3 points assessed against your driver's license.

  • School/Work Zone Violation:
A $60 fine and 3 points on your license, even for a first offense.

  • Causing a Crash:
If your violation of the cell phone law contributes to a crash, you could face six points on your license and potential lawsuits for damages

What I would like to know is this:

Does being Nexus approved make it much less likely to have your laptop/cellphone searched.

I went to NYC over the long weekend. I used to have a Nexus card but it expired in March never bother to renew.

So in TO airport the line up for TSA was 2 lanes people with special cards and normal people like me with no card.
Special line had a lot of people 6x's. than my line.
I went by fast then customs also fast, since I am flagged by US for bringing food they do a double check, no biggie.

On the return from LaGuardia.
TSA two lines special people was 4x's more than people like me with no card - Nexus. I went by really fast.

I will admit on the return at TO no card people were more than Nexus people but there were 2 ladies that sat next to me, I left them behind in the hall ways but they caught up to me at CDN customs since they had Nexus. Since they had to wait for their luggage, I just zipped by card checker.

IF you're planning on crossing the border at least a couple times a year, I'd say it's worth it.
The one time that you breeze by all the non-nexus people will make you thankful that you have it.
BTW, you can also use it to fast track entry to the US from Mexico, too. Saved me a couple hours of waiting in line in the Mexico sun once.

I would assume so.

Just remember, less likely does not mean it wouldn't happen.
It'll depend on what pops up on the computer and the officer's assessment.

Well Schlongie, I'm about to put your theory to the test.
In a couple of months I'll be applying for my Nexus, and if I get approved they either:

1. They didnt take my internet history into account
2. They saw my Terb posts but didnt care
3. They saw all my Terb posts and now I'm under CIA surveillance every time I enter the US

One of those 3 :D

Yes it's worth it for quicker border crossings alone, but be aware that you only use Nexus lanes at the border if EVERYONE in your vehicle has Nexus and their cards on them (same with the Nexus-only bridge in Niagara Falls). Same thing (kinda) with air travel. If the group you're flying with doesn't all have it then you're just gonna be as fast as the slowest member going through customs. Also, it's kinda useless as Pearson only because no matter how fast you get through Customs/Immigration you still are stuck waiting forever at the baggage carousel lol.
