...at a town hall meeting when asked about the influence of his mother. Now his mother had several health issues and passed away in 2003. I understand what he must have gone through because I am facing the same issues with my own mother's decline, and unfortunately I'm all she's got. That said the timing of all this seems very peculiar. Newt could very well come in 5th place in Iowa next Tuesday, and I can't help but feel he was looking for sympathy and for people to feel sorry for him, as if to convince people he's human afterall. The word "staged" came to mind.

Perhaps, then again it may well be something that truly upsets him. One would also think that the strain of campaign such as this is likely to bring emotions close to the surface.

the mere fact that you mentioned your own mother and her decline, indicates you do understand.

Stand tall she now needs to lean on you.

You don't need to explain this to me pappy, I've been going through this on a daily basis for the last few years. It's what I have to do. I consider it my job as her only son. I would never use that to publically generate sympathy, especially if I happened to be involved in a political campaign I was losing. It's unseemly.

It worked for Bohner for a while, so maybe he thought about trying it out. I have no doubt it was not spontaneous.

Is there any truth to the rumour that he left his mother for another mother while his first mother had health issues? :eyebrows:
