Russia taking advantage of the melting ice. Building air bases in the Arctic. Pointing at the U.S. Story goes that they have a new super weapon. A torpedo that can skim along the bottom of the ocean and detonate a nuclear device to cause a " nuclear contaminated tsunami" on the U.S. coast. Putin just signed a law allowing him to run 2 more times, potentially extending his reign until 2036. Sleep well my friends. If China don't get us, Russia will.

None of this is news at all. BTW Trudeau can run for office until he is dead if he wants to. The nuclear torpedo is to counter US missile defence. To carry them they are building a fleet of 8 nuclear subs. Russia is the largest arctic nation, and it makes perfect sense they are developing the arctic so that they can open the northern sea route.

Canada is also moving in that direction, on a much smaller scale. They both want the North Pole, as the leaders of both countries probably believe in Santa Claus...

Russia has the potential to be the world's per-eminent superpower.

The problem with Russia is they've had Leafs style management since Peter The Great. Putin may be flexing his military power but the country is an economic pygmy with a collapsing population. Putin is a tough guy who's turning Russia into a sock puppet for the PRC.

Russia has a population of 140 million and a GDP about the same as Canada's. The US's GDP and population is 10 x Canada's. The USA has 340 million people - 2.5 x Russia's.

Aside from its massive nuclear arsenal, Russia is no longer a player. It's the US and China now.

Canada surpassed Russia in GDP in 2016, according to NationMaster.

Canada also gets a far greater bang for it's tax money since looting is kept to a minimum. Alexei Navalny is correct, Russians are paying through the nose with Putin in power, why good ol Vlad wants him killed. Like Magnitsky before him who was beaten to death. Russia now has an economy on scale with Australia.

I heard that Russia had a smaller one than Italy. (GDP) I didn't know Canada had one. Anyway. Alexei Navalny got out of there alive. Nursed back to some semblance of health in Germany and headed straight back for more. Talk about a martyr complex. Never heard of the expression "quit while you're ahead"?

Agreed. Their GDP is not much bigger than ours. All that military spending built of such a weak and unproductive economy is a sure sign of a tinpot dictatorship. Putin can blather on about weapons systems but they are totally unusable as they would only invite the destruction of Russia itself.

They might have a better economy if they stop spending a lot of their money interfering in other peoples elections.

Thats a load of nonsense. Russia geopolitica influence is enormous. They single handedly stopped 2 regime change operations by the USA . GDPs are not really comparable. When the US builds an overpriced F-35 its 120M in GDP, whereas an SU-35 is only about 30M in GDP. Russians are not as rich as Canadians, but don't confuse them for dirt poor wretches.

Putin is scared of Biden because Biden is actually making America great again. Things are normal again in US-Russia relations.

Russia specifically Putin is hell bent on destroying the USA's democracy, and in my opinion rightfully so, furthermore he will succeed in doing it. Putin has found the USA's weakness and is exploiting it, this has benefited China the most financially and in terms of super power status, and secondly it has benefited Russia in terms of being a super power and pulling the strings.
In the long run USA is fucked the way things are progressing as it's beyond repair unless extreme changes are made but at this point it seems very unlikely.
