I used to be on the fence regarding this issue (i.e. renewables vs. oil and gas, nuclear, etc.). The war in Ukraine changed all that for me. When I realized that Europe was sending hundreds of millions everyday to Russia for oil and gas, it hit home how hypocritical the West has been in their green energy position. They shut down nuclear and coal plants while becoming increasingly dependent on Russian oil and gas. Now they're essentially financing the war.
I'd rather take my chances with global warming than be under the thumb of the likes of Putin, Xi, MBS or that POS Trump. Certainly none of those megalomaniacs would give a shit about global warming!
But all Putin has done is to rush the EU on their transition.
It'll be more CO2 in the air for a couple of years then less from then on.
And eventually the end of power for despots like MBS and Putin.
Hey, we said for years to buy ethical oil(and drill for more) in canada. But people voted for the frauds. Now billions that could be going to our health care system through royalties, instead go to Russian massacre artillery(how many in that shopping center yesterday).

I'm not sure the EU were on a serious transition. About the time the Russians invaded, they were in the process of commissioning a third pipeline (Nordstream 2) from Russia. I believe they denied final approval because of the war. Nevertheless their intent was to consume more oil and gas and enrich Putin even more.
I've read that Germany (at least) is now scrambling to fill its gas storage before winter so that they don't freeze to death over there. Plus they're in the horrible position of possibly having the two remaining pipelines' supply being cut off by Putin whenever he decides he might want to amp up the pressure (or start a war somewhere else).
I take your point on the oil and agree. I don't see the point of calling people frauds or labelling people lefties or righties though. An issue should be debated on its own merits or lack of.
The EU does include a big group of countries, all with different leadership and goals.
Germany is a bit of a pickle since they decided to decommission their nukes and haven't built the replacements yet.
The EU in general is upping renewables, but yes, some countries don't care.
Putin has made it clear that fossil fuels aren't that reliable.

Fossil fuels are reliable and have been for decades. It's Putin that's not reliable. Wind and solar certainly aren't.
Ok, lets say the supply of fossil fuels is not reliable.
Wind and solar are reliable over the long term.
Find me a place where the sun shines 24 hours a day year round. And the wind never stops blowing.
I tell you what Frankfooter. I challenge you to disconnect your house from electricity and any other supply of energy and put solar panels and wind generators on your house and let us know how it goes.

Unlike the frauds like Frankfooter(who are pretty much always mistaken, yet never admit it) I admit when I make an occasional mistake. I saw Tuktoyaktuk and living off the grid when I quoted and it loses the previous posts quotes. So I correct my error in thinking Frankfooter was saying he lived off the grid in Tuktoyaktuk.
And yes, the Inuait did do it for thousands of years with a much shorter lifespan that what reliable energy provides in the modern world. Funny how vortually none of them do now.
And neither does Frankfooter because he want RELIABLE energy. Which he gets from carbon producing energy sources along with nuclear.
