There is a fish and chips place on 5th Street in Etobicoke (New Toronto Fish and Chips) that still fires in beef tallow! NOTHING better to fry potatoes in! Definitely can taste and feel the difference!
Thanks! I’ve been missing good Fish and Chips since I was in London last fall.

I went to UK last year and brought back some beef dripping. Cost about $5. I put a big knob of beef dripping into the air fryer when frying my fat/British style chips (using russet potatoes). Gives off a nice smell too!
Walk me thru this? It sounds delicious.

I’ll show my heart who is the boss.

Now I want Fish & Chips. Which is the best place in downtown Toronto, to have Fish & Chips?
Now I'm craving a good fish and chips, too ! The following 3 are probably gone now : Irish Embassy , pub across from Roy Thomson Hall, pub in the TD Centre just atop the escalators. Sea Witch is excellent but a bit of a drive . . .

I had from Fresco, per SchlongConery's recommendation above. And I did have the Ms. Vickies batter on 2 pieces of halibut, with sweet potato fries. So good!

The city hasn’t been the same since Penrose Fish and Chips closed down after 50+ years.

In the immediate downtown core, it was Alfred's F and C for me in the 80's on east side of Yonge just south of Bloor.
The waitress that worked there looked like Andy Capp's wife , LOL

I like this place in Kensington Market. Try to fish and battered in Miss Vickies potato chips. (An idea I came up with decades ago using salt and vinegar ridged chips (like Ruffles but from Presidents Choice!!)

My Mom used to smash a bunch of chips and do a shake and bake style chicken(with skin). Yummy

My Mom used to smash a bunch of chips and do a shake and bake style chicken(with skin). Yummy

My special recipe for a shore lunch of pickerel was to soak the fillets in canned condensed milk, then dip in cornstarch. Let the cornstarch firm up while you get your canned maple beans and canned potatoes (sliced and fried) ready. Then dip the fillets in an egg and little bit of condensed milk wash, then dredge in crushed ridged (like Ruffles-but it was PC Chips back then) Salt and Vinegar chips.

Then pan fry them in lard in a big stamped carbon steel campfire frying pan.

Fuck me, it was great!

All the other fishermen and/or guides had our own recipes. Some liked pancake batter mix with beer. Rocky Madsen was a real estate agent back then and came up with his own fish batter recipe that I think is still sold in stores.

Unspoken shore lunch rule was that everything in the shore lunch had to be canned or otherwise not needing refrigeration.

Definitely intrigued by the fish and chips and burger places.

I've got a bit of a sweet tooth and I've heard nothing but good things about Craig's Cookies.

Went to New Toronto many times. Long Branch Fish and Chips was also quite good, but it closed a while ago. There is a chain place called Halibut House, which is decent and they're all over the place.
