Experts are keeping a wary eye on yet another COVID-19 variant, this one with 46 mutations.

It was detected in France and showed up in a traveler who recently arrived from a three-day stay in Cameroon, French researchers said in a pre-print study published on medRxiv, which means it has not yet been peer-reviewed.

While researchers were monitoring the strain to ascertain how infectious it is or whether it poses a danger, experts emphasized that its discovery alone was not cause for alarm. Moreover, it was noted even before omicron took over the world stage and “has been on our radar,” WHO incident manager on COVID Abdi Mahamud said at a press briefing in Geneva on Tuesday, according to Bloomberg. “That virus had a lot of chances to pick up.”

So far, indications are that it hasn’t. But it did manage to infect 12 people in Marseille, in southeastern France.

The 46 mutations had not been detected in other countries, The Independent noted.

The person infected with the B.1.640.2 variant, dubbed IHU after being discovered by scientists at the IHU Mediterranee Infection, was fully vaccinated and had just returned from a three-day trip to Cameroon when they tested positive, the researchers said.

Any speculation or alarm would be premature, the researchers said.

At the beginning of the Corona operation, we were informed by the World bank that COVID - 19 project will continue until March 31, 2025, which means perpetual new “variants” to be expected.

Been discussed before. It was detected around the same time that omicron was and has only been detected in a dozen people.

I know C-M wants to portray this as some type of continual con but the science is reality. It was detected, monitored, and has seemed not to be an issue so that's why we haven't heard anything about it in the news since the article was released.

Did you look at the article you posted? 12 cases even though it's been around as long as omicron. No one is freaking out about IHU because there is no evidence it is a concern.

Instead you're obsessed about some bank conspiracy theory.

Canadian researchers tracking potentially more transmissible Omicron subvariant

Canadian researchers are tracking a potentially more transmissible subvariant of the Omicron strain of COVID-19, known as BA.2.

Experts say the strain spreads fast and easily with 10,000 cases reported in around 50 countries around the world. Some have dubbed it “stealth Omicron” due to it being harder to detect on PCR tests due to its genetic makeup.
A handful of Omicron subvariants featuring different mutations have been identified so far — but BA. 2 is getting attention because there is an increase in cases in Canada.

In Denmark, the subvariant now accounts for nearly half of all Omicron cases.

There are early signs BA.2 may be more transmissible than the original Omicron variant but it is not clear what impact it could have on the current wave of infections.

The World Health Organization has called for research into BA.2 to be prioritized over other Omicron subvariants.
