New 20" widescreen

DrRogers has left the Bld
I just bought a 20" widescreen monitor - I am trying to set it up but all I am getting is a picture stretched in the width - is there some kind of aspect ratio setting that I can do. No disk came with the monitor and i checked the mfg site (SOYO - model line is Citrine) but nothing I can see for driver etc.

Any ideas how to get the most out of this monitor

Thanks

when its widescreen thats what you get, just like a tv?
There maybe a setting to switch to 4:3 but most are 16:10.
Curious what resolution are you running?

I don't think your monitor is the problem, it sounds like you need to change the resolution of your video card. Go to My computer then control panel. Once control panel is open choose display. once display open choose settings. See if you can slide resolution to more, hopefully you have a 1680x1050 setting. What video card do you have? Older models might only offer 4x3 resolutions rather than 16x10. By the way, $129 for a 20" widescreen LCD is a very good deal, where did you get it?

You may need to download newer drivers for your video card\on-board video chip. If 1680x1050 isn't offered as a resolution, try 1360 x 768.

Don't have anything higher than 1024x768

Video Card is ATI Radeon Express 200 Series. Have looked for newer driver but confused as to which is correct one.

Should I be updating video card and if so - what is a preferred choice

Thanks for the help

If you're using XP Home\Professional
http://game.amd.com/us-en/drivers_catalyst.aspx?p=xp/integrated-xp

If you're using Vista (32 bit)
http://game.amd.com/us-en/drivers_catalyst.aspx?p=vista32/integrated-vista32

Use 'Add\Remove Programs" to remove the existing 'ATI Display Drivers' and reboot before installing the new ones.

Depending on the motherboard make and model, there may not be an AGP or PCI-Express slot for upgrading the video.
Thanks - followed this and removed ATI driver before re-installing - works great!!!!

What a deal this monitor was - Almost paid $190 @ Canada Computes, then $150 @ Tiger Direct - then saw this deal - better stop looking will probably be $99 after Xmas
