What are your thoughts on Nepotism, is it wrong, is it moral or is it fair?

It is completely unfair and a lot of companies have policies that eliminate nepotism.

For anyone who interviews candidates for positions there is an interesting way to eliminate a lot of bias in recruiting.

Do not allow names on resumes.

Reviews of resumes are based on credentials only. After all, do you not want the best qualified candidate?

Nepotism is wrong if it doesn't benefit you.

Nepotism is the absolute best way to fit the worst candidate into position.

Absolutely would want the best qualified candidate. If your a small business owner would you hire your children to learn the trade and because they would be more trust worthy staff? Would you say it’s appropriate in those circumstances?

Good question as small or family owned businesses face a different set of dynamics cost-wise (I was thinking larger companies with my original response).

On the other hand, how many times are kids obliged to work for mom and pop when they would prefer not to? I recall in my teen years having friends that hated working at their parents place of business but kind of had to in order to earn their keep.

However, back to your question - if your kids were competent and trust-worthy then it would make sense. If they are useless and/or bad employees, then the risk is that your business will fail.

Totally wrong, I've worked at a co. where there were quite a few cases of nepotism.

95% of the hired relations are a total fuck-up: lazy, tardiness, theft etc......

To quote an old saying, which too often applies to family run businesses large and small, "shirtsleeves to shirtsleeves in three generations"...

I’m really pissed with my current company. The local chapter‘s leadership only hires people a certain race. It don’t matter if they’re qualified or not.
