I work in the industry with all the OEM's. Check out the JD Powers surveys of comebacks /100 new cars. You'll be surprised how poorly some of the top names rate. BMW is a beautiful car but as suggested by other postings they do have inherent computer problems, primarily the body computers. Check out some of the forums at the BMW Dealerships websites. I've been surprised how much bitching the BMW owners do.
The Infiniti is my top choice. I love the styling, the fit and finnish is near perfect and the engines are great. That's what I wanted my wife to buy but she bought a German sedan instead ($105.00 oil changes). Don't get me wrong I do like her car as Her model is a proven platform.
You may also want to check out the Toyota Solera and the Avalon. Toyota is the currently the envy of all the OEM's in North America. They have double digit growth, very high customer satiafaction (tied with Honda) and great resale value which is important if you want to drive a new car every 3-4 years (like me).
In summary if it's expensive to buy it had better be cheap to own and do factor in resale (depreciation) as that's the biggest cost of ownership. What really drives the resale value for used cars is what vehicles are worth owning after 3 years. By looking at what vehicles are getting the best resale value used, that list of vehicles is also the best OEM's. You will find the Japanese imports will be the best for resale. For that reason I'll never take another bullet from the big 3. I'm not suggesting to buy with resale in mind unless you want to drive new every 3 years but resale value is good info to see who has enduring quality.
Having said all that I'lll usually choose the vehicle that makes me hard!
