A buddy of mine asked me if i wanted a job working at another financial institute and i said yes. So i went to the interview and it turns out that i know the three guys who was interviewing me (my buddy being one of the interviewers). Now, i don't think i'll get the position as i don't know anything about their side of the operation but i have a slim chance. If hired, i would be working under my buddys group and i'm not so sure i'm comfortable with that. Should i take the job IF i get accepted? I wasn't too comforable with my friend being in the interview either. Just help a brotha out please.

That is a tough one brother. Can you seperate you work from your friendship? Could you still be buddies if he had to fire you? Would you still be friends if down the road he had to work for you? Will he be pissed if you quit? Personally, I will not work for friends as it usually causes me bullshit down the road. Just some things to consider.

Never work "for" a good friend, one you'd not want to lose. Though I have learned working "with" a good friend can work very well.

Are there other departments you could transfer to later ? If the job is more lucrative and offers more opportunites I would not let the fact my friend works there bother you.
Better having a friend to start than a boss you don't like

The job is much better in the long run than my current job now. It has a much better pay and most likely better benifits. What worries me is letting my friend down if I can't do the job. I don't think i can face him after the fact. Also concerned about his reputation if I fuck up cause it's his ass on a sling. Not that i'm saying i'll fail but some jobs do not work well with some people.

Always value a friendship more than a job.

Tell your friend you value thir friendship more than any job could ever offer. And while happy you have the offer, you respectfully turn it down in favor of friendship.

So i talked to my buddy and he says that i have a good chance but it's not 100% yet. I still haven't heard from him yet and its the week end. Doesn't look good. I told him that i wasn't all that comfortable working for him and working within his group. He says not to worry about it as he doesn't go on power trips or anything like that. I have decided, if i am hired, that i will indeed work for him as it is a great opportunity in my career. Now if i can just land that job. I just hope he doesn't ask for a special favour for this.

BTW, thanks for the advice guys.
