Hi All,

I'm interested in selling some stuff on eBay, and I hoping that someone can help me out with concerns that I have about payment, and shipping:

1) They say that you have to give your banking information to either eBay or PayPal. That sounds scary. Is it safe?

2) How do I find out how much I need to charge for shipping?

Thanks in advance for your help, advice, and/or tips for selling on eBAy.

PayPal accounts are notorious for getting hacked. Avoid using it if you can. Don't keep a lot of money in a bank account that's linked to PayPal.

I've been eBaying for the past 3 years or so and have yet to have any serious problems. The only real issue I had was my latest transaction (I bought something) but the issue was resolved after about a month. The rest of my transactions have been very smooth both when I've bought stuff and when I've sold.

I've never had any problems with PayPal other than the fees - like any bank they go out of their way to stiff you as best they can. That said, it is ultimately the easiest, simplest way to transact money both buying and selling. My password for PayPal is very difficult to guess so I don't get overly concerned about hacking.

If you are selling, you can use the UPS, FedEx, Canada Post (Purolator) websites to estimate shipping. Depending on the item, shipping is generally done by both weight and size. The websites will give you a good ballpark on shipping costs.

Keep in mind that if you buy stuff from the US, you'll be charged a customs fee as it crosses the border. Again depending on what the item is, these charges can be small or significant.
