I filed a law suit against two property owners when they never paid their bill (small claims). Unfortunately what I thought would be fairly easy myself but it has now gotten a little complicated.

Can any one recommend a lawyer that does law suits that doesn't cost an arm and a leg and knows what they are doing?
aren't these requirements mutually exclusive?

I have 10 yrs. experience with Small Claims Court stuff, although I'm not a lawyer. Most lawyers don't have experience with Small Claims simply because it's not necessary to have a lawyer represent you in Small Claims, and because you don't need one, it doesn't make sense to incur the cost of a lawyer. Feel free to PM me if you want.

Hey buddy, you are delusional. Get real. Any lawyer is going to cost you, and a good lawyer is going to cost you more. If you have a low annual income, you may qualify for legal aid. Contact Law Society of Upper Canada to find out, and to get a referral to a lawyer who is qualified in the area of law that you require. For a nomimal fee (something like $10), you can set up a consultation with the lawyer, but it is really just a brief discussion so that you know where you stand. You will be billed at full rate for any other work.

Good luck.

Bobzilla raises a good point. I'm not exactly sure what is at issue in your matter - but generally speaking, because of the prohibitive cost of litigation as well as the monetary limits on Small Claims Court actions, lawyers are not always the best way to go in this venue.

Between a rock and a hard place
If property owners owe you money for construction or contracting services rendered, consult the act. statutes permit you to easily put a lein on their property. This means they cannot renegotiate a mortgage or transfer ownership of their property without paying you. While the process does involve patience -- yours, most smart property owners do not want liens hanging over their heads.
