I had to blow up Celticman's pic to identify who the Nazi's with Nazi lover Edward were. The one to the left is Rudolf Hess, the one to the right was a mystery at first. By supporting the Nazi Party he went against the wishes of his ailing superior General Paul von Hinderburg. He is WW I General Erich Leudendorff. Without his support, Hitler stood zero chance of becoming Chancellor. He died while Neville Chamberlain was declaring "peace in our time".

Ten seconds to type “Queen Elizabeth Nazi salute” into google and you’d get photos of her, her little sister and Mum saluting back in 1933.
She’s been forgiven.
Although a further ten seconds would reveal that she was a 7 year old child in 1933 and not the queen; her coronation was 20 years later in 1953.

In the mini-series Hitler: The Rise of Evil, Robert Carlyle played Hitler...he was too convincing and may have stunted his career. Peter O'Toole played Hindenburg.

As with the Weimar Republic so today. The role of Germany's President is largely honourary, except that he/she has the power to dissolve the Reichstag and call an election.

There is no law against being a Communist in Canada, the Communist Party is a recognized political party and runs candidates in every federal election. So not sure what the issue with a club at school would be ... although in the Excited States there is an unhealthy paranoia against anything that even leans towards socialism.
And there shouldn't be. There shouldn't be against any party but they should be recognized for what they are. I don't know a person in the United States that identifies as a Nazi or even sympathizes with the Nazis but they tell me that there are some slack jawed yocals that are still hanging on which I find mind boggling. Every time they get together about 100X their number comes out to oppose them and rightfully so. Meanwhile, the last bastion of communism is the American universities (maybe North American Universities). And what has been a more devastating form of government than communism? I think people should fly into a rage when someone tries to start a communist club. For God's sake read Solzhenitsyn or Montefiore's Court of the Red Tsar. Stalin and Mao make Hitler look like a boy scout. Where ever they have come into power - from the Bolsheviks of 1917 to the fall of Venezuela in 2017 - Communism has been a disaster.

Her mum was known as Queen Elizabeth and she’s clearly saluting alongside her kids.

Except that is not what you expressed in your post. changing the narrative is a poor form of intellectual dishonesty. But carry on. You can have the last word you seem to be the type that needs it.

I said the Queen gave a Nazi salute, which is true.
You’re the one crying about a historical fact.

No, the person who became Queen Elizabeth gave a Nazi salute.
The person who gave the Nazi salute (in 1933) was Princess Elizabeth.

Those are facts.

Speaking of "changing the narrative" another lounge thread goes off on a wild tangent.

Queen Elisabeth The Elder never forgave Edward and his American Trollope, whatever her name was. She didn't think that her husband "affectionately known as Bertie to the British" was strong enough to be King. In a way she was right, he was a stutterer who suffered from social anxiety, he died at age 67. She was also wrong, he wouldn't accept surrender to that "bloody house painter", supported Churchill when the pacifists were ready to depose him and worked the soup kitchens during the London Blitz. If only today's Royals had some of his moral fiber.

What did you think of Bertie’s wife, the Queen Mum, making a Nazi salute along with her kiddies in 1933?

And that 1933 was long before the world realised how disgusting the Nazi ideology was.

On the other hand, 2019, even in West Virginia, people should know better.

Mrs Wallis Simpson was her name and she took on an empire and won.

And yet Trump was elected and his Nationalist supporters are as enthusiastic today of their Leader as they were when they didn't know the depths of his vitriol.

Will be interesting to see how the world looks back on the Trump ideology in 50 years.

I think that is a bit of a stretch. I think Trump is a racist old man and he loves adoration, even if it comes from virulent racists but he is nowhere near the level of Hitler. Trump might insinuate certain immigrant groups are bad but Hitler openly went into details long before getting elected.

I also hope that the American institutions function far better than those of Wiemar Germany.
