Allen Turing, OBE, FRS. (I had a friend now dead who was a fellow Undergraduate with him at King's College, Cambridge). One of the Giants of both Cryptology and Computer Science. Hounded into suicide in the early 1950's.
Correct on both counts, Empress Maria Theresa was also the mother of Marie Antoinette.

Very sad story and all he did for Great Britain was crack the Enigma Code - so much for gratitude.

That is the famous Prussian Decoration (the highest of Prussian Decorations) the Pour le Mérite (a.k.a. The Blue Max) at his throat.
Died immediately after locking horns with some Canadian RAF pilots. Though a Canadian, Roy Brown is credited with the kill, he was more probably killed by a shot from Australian ground forces.

It's so cool that we are having these historical discussions on top of identifying the faces. This must be the most educational thread I've read in a long time.

Far more difficult. Erich Hartmann, the Luftwaffe's top scoring ace in WW2 with 352 kills. The reigning fighter ace of all time. A score that will likely never be equaled.

His nickname was "Bubi" or "Laddie".

Further to such things I believe that the only two holders of the Pour le Mérite who went on to become important figures in the Second World War were Field Marshal Erwin Rommel, and Hermann Göring.
