I assume you have a link. The early days of Islamic expansion usually left people to practice their own religion if they wished, but applied taxes on them as non-muslims etc. Conversion happened, but over centuries.
I think Islam itself is good but as its current form it is easily manipulated.

The amount of forced conversions is still debated. Some sources have Muhammad's conquests resulting in the death of all men except a few who converted (no idea if it was given as a choice or just the result). In later periods it was believed that forced conversions were the norm but many modern historians see it as less common. Some periods of Islamic rule were far more pluralistic than others and at times, the choice to convert would have been strongly influenced by economics. Maybe not a choice between Islam or death but between Islam and poverty.
I have a problem when any one converts to any religion. When someone converts to Christianity or Judaism or Islam it means they r giving up on reality and rational thinking. It means they can't cope with the dog eat dog world we live in and they're looking for a fantasy explanation to make their own inability to cope with reality. Once a person suspends rational thinking there's no telling how far they'll go or what they're capable of. Those people scare the fuck out of me. And I want to stay as far away from them ad possible.

These guys aren't really the profile for the type of Muslim converts we expect to be worried about. They're a couple of immature, unstable & oversensitive types who are easy to manipulate.
I'll bet they've experimented with various "angry" movements prior to Muslim fundamentalism, but probably lost patience with them.
When they stumble upon radical Islam, the certainty in it's absolutism, the way it seems to be taking bold & epic actions these days, I think they felt this was the vehicle which would allow them to make an impact soon.
Their "handlers" probably recognized right away that these were rash, undisciplined men, so their only real value was as disposable shock instruments.
