I'm sure it doesn't apply to all but I would think the same reason gangs and cults appeal to people. It gives them a sense of belonging which they likely never had. Add in that religion makes all kinds of promises about their life/afterlife being better and they buy it.
But yes, I would think that someone raised in a culture that values life stooping to murder means they have some other psychological issues.

In the simplest terms. Some of these guys can't get laid. I do not understand belief in any religion. It always is in the back of my mind when I have to go to church(weddings/funerals) that no matter what the priest/preacher is espousing that it really is all a bunch of bullshit.
They truly aren't converting to Islam. That's an easy sell for the media.

Some of these guys are too feckless and spoiled to realize they're being sold snake oil. It takes strict discipline to be an actual Muslim. Turning to violence or taking part in a violently archaic cause does not make you a Muslim.

If you are gullible enough to believe god needed to have a son and that the cracker you get at church is the body of Jesus, then you are gullible enough to convert to any other religion that provides a fantasy more in tune with your particular level of crazy.
I disagree. Some of my best friends are devout Muslims, and they've never tried to kill me. It's not Islam, it's extremism and mental illness.
