Moving to Brazil

I'm thinking of buying a beachfront condo in Rio this winter.
I dont speak portuguese (Yet) but I'm wondering if anyone here knows how long, on average, it takes to learn a new language (assuming you live there and hear nothing but portuguese)
I'm not talking about fluency, but just enough to get by
