As Rob Hall, leader of the ill-fated 1996 expedition, once said: “Human beings simply aren’t built to function at the cruising altitude of a 747.”

Agreed, let them all kill them selves less idiots i the gene pool.
They died doing what they loved so such tragedy isn't
as tragic as it seems.

That being said I wouldn't be so harsh as to call these
heroes idiots or worthy of a Darwin award. We do
need heroes who only died once so cowards such as me
can die a thousand times and still find life worth living.

Maybe this will remind people that the trek has very real dangers, which will hopefully cut down on the congestion.

Mount Everest tourism is good for Nepal's economy.
I would not want to see Nepalese lose money because
people become afraid or even chicken out of climbing
the mountain.

The answer of course is to only let experienced climbers attempt to summit. Their would be far fewer of them and likely no 'traffic jam' above 8km commonly known as the death zone.
The reality is that it's super expensive to participate and I'm sure the adventure companies wouldn't jeopardize revenue so they'll encourage anyone with the cash to and wherewithal to take their chances.

This is all of the news but I fail to see why anyone would care.

How big is the Mt Everest climber community? 99.999999999999999% of the rest of us don't give a shit.

Mountain climbing has probably gained popularity with the rise of social media.I can't think of anything more egotistical making it perfect for "likes" and profile pics.

Everyone knows the danger involved. It's a great test of skill and physical stamina. Let them be.

If the trip has a line up then maybe it isn't the proof of extreme hardiness it once was. With the masses of garbage, Nepal would have banned it years ago if it didn't bring in so many tourist dollars.

Can't think of a more egotistical way to die. Power to them...….I wish big game hunters had those kind of death stats. There's a game show in there of some sort.....I just know there is.

Clearly time to level off the ridge-line into a two-lane path with railings and solar-powered O₂ concentrators every 25 metres. Perhaps the Nepalese should consult with Kenyan mountain guides, who can still make tourists imagine they're mountaineers as they're walking up Kilimanjaro.

This is on my TDL bucket list.

I know it is extremely expensive probably in the range of $100k and many have successfully completed this adventure. However I know it will take years of research and training to do it properly. I can see great personal reward doing this if this is what you want to do and you do it properly. Its amazing the wonderful things people have figured out to do with their bodies such as free dive to over 100m or climb these extreme heights. Its unfortunate that people lose respect for the mother nature and their bodies in the process and many lose their lives due to unrecoverable mistake.

Deaths from strenuous sports like free diving, downhill
and free style skiing and marathon run have little to do with
people losing respect for mother nature. Life is more rewarding
when you know you are ahead of others.

Thats funny! The only part I can relate to and agree with is the a head from others part. Life is more rewarding when you push your limits and follow your calling, put others ahead of your own needs, and get a head from the ones you adore most like MPA.
