I'm going to see Motley Crue tomorrow night in Halifax - just re-living the days of my youth *lol* I'm wondering if anyone else has seen the show, and if so, what they thought of it. I just heard that the show sold out, and that the promoter has secured additional seating near the front somehow. Kind of ironic in that someone who waits until the last minute to get a ticket now has better seats than someone else who bought them on the day they went on sale. Next time, I'm going to go to a scalper! :p

you are in for a good night . seen the show twice now here in Toronto, they seem to stick to the same set list ( I'm guessin with all the drugs consumed goes the memory ) but it's a 2 and a half hour show. ALL THE HITS !!!! Nikki and Tommy are still decent, vince is not what he once was and Mick's illness prevents him from moving much, but if you like The Crue you will love the show.

How are Vince's vocals? When he was on live 8 his vocals were soooooo bad that I vowed never to see them even though they spent a ton of time in my walkman and stereo back in the day. anyways, it seemed like he couldn't hit the notes, was out of synch and even mumbled some of the lyrics.

Thanks Canadian ..........He is very lucky to tour by the looks of things
Yeah, I heard he had to have hip replacement surgery before the tour began. It's really unfortunate. Even Vince is a shadow of his former self - he looks so bloated now. I remember them from back in the day, 1983 to 1989 when they were at their peak. Hard to believe that was 20+ years ago!

I have a friend, a DJ no less, that is still and will always be a Crue super fan.

It's amazing the loyalty.

They rocked a few songs but my goodness they're no Zepplin, AC/DC or Sabbath.

Sorry for the disrespect but I was just smoking in the boys room and teacher you can tell me all of your rules but eveybody knows that smoking ain't allowed in school.

JMHO,I put Crue on the not bad but same level as Van Halen, Def Leppard, Poison, Bon Jovi and maybe White Snake. Rockers with some pop hits but middlin pop rockers nonetheless.

I like rock, lots of it but I'm all about the Hip Hop for years. If you're looking for a Motley Crue fight, I'd advise I know more music and was just expressing an affront opinion.

Don't think anyone would compare the Crue to the kings of classic rock like Led Zep, the Who, Stones, Beatles etc.

I will say this though that there has to be something about their music that keeps people coming back even after 20 years. Sure nostalgia has a role in this but even to this day they play crue on the radio. Furthermore, there are plenty of things that I liked 20 years ago that I won't give the time of day today. Getting air play in this day where stars fade in and out pretty quickly is a big feat.

No as musicians they were nothing special. No guitar gods or anything like that but for some reason I still enjoy their songs today. But they write catchy songs and their first four albums have very little filler. That's a pretty good feat in itself too, to have 4 albums that you can play from beginning to end and enjoy almost every song. But more than that the songs are distinct.

Compare that to say Ozzy's no more tears album. While good the songs start to sound a bit alike as far as the rhythm is concerned.

You gotta give credit to a band that can still play places like the ACC 20 years after the fact, rather than say Casino Rama.

Anyways, no they're not in the range of being compared to the legends but they've got enough material to put on a good show where you aren't waiting for one or two hits. Fun band, with a deep library of good songs, and a bit of nostalgia, and a small part in music history (i.e. one of a few bands that gained notoriety and helped start the glam metal explosion of the 80s and took the sex drugs and rock n roll to new heights..... GNR and Poison and even harder bands might not have been signed if it weren't for bands like Crue, Def Leppard, Aerosmith and Van Halen to show that this branch of music was commercially viable) is the appeal for me.

Yeah a midlevel band is a fair assessment but I don't think that takes anything away from what they have done for their own careers and the signing of a ton of poser and forgetable bands of the LA rock scene.

Now take hip hop for example I'm a huge fan of it but I find there aren't many albums that I put on and listen to from beginning to end (even if you discount skits). Run DMC while good sound dated today. LL Cool Jay from the walking with a panther was good but same thing. Public Enemy and Beastie Boys, Erik B and Rakim, BDP/KRS1, Tribe Called Quest, Digable Planets and EPMD get much closer to bands with a number of good albums from beginning to end.

Good groups that you have to track forward on would be NWA, Ice Cube, Ice T, Snoop, 50.

Anyways, just trying to point out that if you look for hip hop groups that have been around for any amount of time and have a large number of albums that you can listen to from beginning to end AND are still as popular today (in terms of crowds they can attract) the list is not that long. So perhaps the Crue deserve a bit more respect.

No I don't have to give credit.

Especially when I was upfront in being amazed at the fan loyalty.

Recognized, credit given.

You haven't said anything for the band that Jovi doesn't also do every year at the Amphitheatre and around the world that Poison and Van Walan could do almost every other year as well but they're fat. There's still lotsa mullets in Southern Ontario and 100's of thousands of people that like the songs they know the words to but every rose has it's thorn.

Stop pouring sugar on me, I'll cut your arm off.

Pan a ma ha ha haa!

So perhaps what you should have said was that you're amazed at the popularity of hair metal.

Personally I'm not so surprised given how many people out there listen to music there's certainly enough fans to support a wide variety of music.

Thing about music is that it's subjective what you like may not be someone else's cup of tea but that doesn't make it better or worse just not for you.

I think that was my original idea, thanks for the summary.

Still looking for a real scrap from a real head.

Please I know a fair bit about music but the problem is you picked a topic that noone's going to argue. The problem is that music isn't always about quality or analysis it can be for entertainment and obviously people have fun with it but don't tout it as being the be all and end all of music.

What you've said about the Crue is a no brainer but no one was suggesting that they were the greatest band ever.

If you want a debate pick a topic where both sides are more even then maybe you'll get what you're looking for. So if you want to prove you're a real head pick a better topic.

Fair enough.

My compliments balanced my disrespect.

Rock kills it but I like Hip Hop so I'd advise retention when reading.

Seems like I had the perfect opinion.

Perfection.

Cheers.

The only problem I had was with you suggesting that people compare Crue to the legends like Zeppilin and failing to see that entertaiment is part of the equation in addition to say musicianship or impact on music history.

My original post:

Didn't even mention that the KISS army rules but I called out these twisted sister fans of make up madness and pop rock hair glam and all I got was you...

An all strokes for all folks opinion is an agreement not a discussion or the argument I was seeking.

Thank you for not being rock or roll frankcastle, strange days indeed.

Never claimed to be RnR. What were you hoping for? I'd assume that people who like Crue like the other bands you've mentioned and probably rank them higher than crue. Tough to get people to debate such a one sided topic. If you're such a head pick a better topic to argue or start a thread to attract more than just the Crue fans. How about best MC, or best guitarist, or best live show or best album or best band?

frankcastle your suggestions are noted.

I disagree, however, and expect a few Crue fans to jump in eventually and justify. Hopefully I'll see the bump and participate, the thread already exists.

Crue fans aren't craven.

Cool good luck finding whatever it is you're hoping for. At best you'll get someone to argue that MC is the best of the midlevel bands and even that is a moot point since what is the significance of that? And if you did argue about legendary bands like say the Stones, the Who and LZ it'd be a matter of opinion and taste and not fact.

Show Rocked!!

The place was packed and the Crue were on stage for 3 hours last night! The tittie cam was out in full force, with many obliging ladies partaking. There were a couple of prudes, to which Tommy remarked "You suck! and so does your boyfriend" He was a riot, inciting the crowd with chants like "face down, ass up that's the way we like to fuck" and "let's blow the roof off this bitch!" Nikki said the Crue was here to destroy the city, and they very nearly succeeded. My ears are still ringing!!
